For one good thing, if necessary, this charger will recover a dead battery, unlike a majority of chargers being marketed in the a little under/a little over the $100 range. I did look into chargers pretty deep in this range. There was another stand out but it was in another brand, and I've been familiar with Schumacher for years, so that is what I bought again. As for the charger itself, it's heavier than expected, so if weight of the works inside equals quality, it has it. The cables aren't as heavy as I'd like but neither are any other chargers is this price range. The clamps are a thick plastic but I do think they will last, clamps are small so they'll fit tight in tight places, and the springs in the clamps are strong, so they'll wear better overall too. There's not a lot of instructions included, just basic to do's %26 don'ts, if the battery is in the car or out of the car, and a lot about safety that you should read if you're unfamiliar with charging batteries and chargers. To use it's basically automatic after you select the battery type. It determines the state of the battery and starts charging or lights indicator lights for "Bad" or "Desulfation" mode if the battery might can be recovered. You could hook it up, plug in, select a rate if you want and press start, or walk away, and it will run through an automatic cycle something like this, depending on the condition of the battery, it gives the battery a 30 amp boost then automatically adjusts the charge rate according to what is needed with multistage charging. Then it switches to 6 amps for the final charge cycle, then switches to 2 amp for maintaining the battery until it is put in use again and lights the "Charged" green light. It includes a battery %26 alternator tester and a 100 amp engine start feature. Compatible with Lithium LiFePO4, marine, and 6 volt batteries. Like I said I did a lot of comparison shopping and this charger I would buy again. I'd give it 5 stars but nothing is perfect.
