SentrySafe FHW40100 Fire-Resistant and Water-Resistant File Safe Box with Key Lock 0.66 Cu. ft.

Was exactly what I was looking for. All my items fit in the safe perfectly. I really like the way the handles are built into the safe, it makes it so easy to handle .Thank You.

The key mechanism is great, don't have to worry about the combination stop working and trying to figure out how to break in which I've had happen twice.

Sturdy, I don't lock it because the lid latches automatically and stay shut until you press the release button on the front. I keep the keys in the box in case I want to use them in the future and I don't have to try to remember where I "hid" them.

We live in an RV so weight was an issue, as was fire survival and security, but more survival. Birth certificates, passports, etc., are something I take no chances with and my research indicated that for all of these reasons, this was the right solution for our situation. It appears to be a lockable fire box we can count on and light enough to cart around.

I replaced a 35-year-old Sentry safe (tumblers were failing and I was afraid of not being able to get into it) with a smaller fire safe/lock box to hold birth certificates, passports, etc. The smaller box was not a SentrySafe, but a reputable company. Although it had been advertised as 8-1/2 x 11, it was slightly smaller and made pages curl at the edges. In addition, it was bad about humidity - despite a large packet of desiccated silica gel I kept inside. This new SentrySafe waterproof file is a bit large, but I ended up needing the space anyway. I really like the way it handles hanging files - I can organize things much better. I pray I never have to find out how well it holds up to fire or water.

Overall this is okay. The most frustrating part is how small the inside is. The piece is paper barely fits!?! I was SHOCKED at how tiny the inside was. The items I put inside have to be placed diagonally - which is very frustrating. There were also items that I wanted to lay flat, but they would not fit that way either. I wish I could have checked the size inside before I purchased.

The safe is plenty heavy for someone of my age. It is exactly what I needed to store important documents and valuables. The walls are very thick although I wish it was a little bigger, do not think I could pick up. I ordered the safe with the key because of all the complaints regarding the digital safes, just did not want the hassle. Very nice product.

I live in an apartment, so I needed something that I could keep my files safe from possible fires/floods and carry easily when the time comes to move out. Most safes I have seen don't have handles and with how heavy it is, I'm glad I got this one. And with how thick the walls are I'm not surprised. I will say, as others have said, that the lock is kinda worthless and the inside is just a bit smaller than anticipated. But I knew that before hand and it's not a deal breaker for me. I just wanted the peace in mind of knowing my important documents are safe.

I rarely give anything a low rating, but I was kind of disappointed at the lack of storage space within the safe itself, and the fact that it is very difficult to open! The trick I learned when opening is to keep your hand closest to the lock or it will not open!

Do not buy this or other larger version either with the password feature or the key version. They both have exactly the same locking mechanism. I bought one of these about 2 years ago and it broke. I constantly struggled to force it closed. I thought maybe the smaller version of sentry "safe" might be different but it was worse. Cheap plastic locking mechanism on both. Shockingly easy to pry open with screw driver. sure it's relatively easy to carry off but how can it be Fireproof when the locking mechanism is plastic both on the outside and inside. The only part of the locking mechanism that is metal is the latch that is turned by the key but where the latch is connected inside to the is plastic. To Close the "safe" you must press hard on the cover for it to lock. Hard to do and takes 2 or 3 tries. Mine finally broke but I guess I should be grateful that I could easily pry open because the mechanism broke inside. I mean really really easy to pry open. My little boy could do it. Sorry, don't like to complain but I owe it to you.
