I bought this clock as a gift for my mother. She absolutely approves of it's looks, how it blends in with the decor, and mostly how she can read it without pulling out her glasses - from across the room. It's movement is completely silent (to her) and self-adjustment keeps it accurate to the second using WWVB atomic broadcast in Colorado, despite our home being in a "fringe" reception area in central Florida. As for me, I agree with her points. Me being a nerd? I love the atomic precision. It will not skip a second with that auto correction. I set it up and hung it up for her. Initial setup is easy to do. Pre-selecting time zone and DST on, it had the correct time within 5 minutes of inserting the battery and hanging it on a picture frame hook %26 nail in a east-west facing wall above an exterior window. The movement is slick and precise, all hands striking on face indicies really properly. It runs on a single AA battery, allegedly good for at least 1.5~2 years at a stretch. At this price point, no. You do not get a glass crystal. No, you do not get a metal bezel. It is plastic, with a anodized brushed metallic plastic bezel, but it's of excellent build and sturdy. It hangs on a wall, so or isn't being handled or beat around. What you do get for the money is an excellently accurate and bold yet classic, silent, accurate station receiver clock that looks like it belongs no matter your style and decor. I *enthusiastically* recommend this clock!
I had to set the clock time manually. I tried all the other methods and it wouldn't work but appears to be all right now that I said it manually.
I like the looks of the clock a lot. Even better, I really like how it works. When I took the clock out of the box, I tried to set the time. Nothing I did worked, so I put it down on my desk. To my surprise, the clock hands started moving and it set itself to the correct time. I'm guessing it somehow is connected with WWV. I am thinking of buying another of these clocke.
Clock is pleasing to the eye, has nice large numbers which makes it easy to read and it's simple to use. Just put the battery in, set if you have DST or not, set your time zone, and hang it on the wall. Took about 2 hours for it to sync up and set the time. It does it all by itself. Pleased with this clock. Just might be the most accurate one in the house.
Outside.Set itself. Plan on building small roofs over it for a little shade as it is not protected.
Love the size and look of this clock. Works just as expected.
Did you ever look up at the clock in one of the classrooms you sat in as a student and think "I wish I could have one of those clocks in my home!"? Well, now you can! This clock is 12" and looks so much like the clocks that were in my classrooms when I was in school, it really brings back a lot of great memories! It has a sleek, no-fuss, easy to read design and fits in great with the rest of my home's decor. I want to get one for every room!
I have a strong affinity for clocks, and it is evident in my house as you can find clocks in just about every single room except the bathrooms. My mom has a similar attraction. However, one of the annoying things about wall clocks is when day light savings time comes around then it is a bit of a task to get on stools and ladders to change all clocks by either leaping forward or falling back an hour. Well, to my mom and my delight, we got this Sharp atomic wall clock and the problem is solved, minus when the battery needs replacement. This clock sits in my mom's room, and she adores it. It uses one AA battery which is not included. The numbers and hands are big and easily visible despite her poor eyesight. It is super quiet and not heavy. And, the best part is that the time is set by it automatically synchronizing itself with the WWVB radio signal broadcast by the US Government's National Institute of Standards and Technology. There are couple of switches in the back of the clock to designate which time zone and if you are in a state that practices daylight savings time. There are also small buttons where you can override the automatic time sync feature and manually set the clocks yourself. How cool is that? My mom says she trusts this new Sharp atomic wall clock more than any other clocks in the house, and thinks it has the most accurate time.
I have been used to a bird clock in my office for many years %26 I am used to the different songs every hour. I forget that this one is even there. I especially like the large numbers %26 the fact that we don't have to adjust in the spring %26 fall is definitely a plus.
My laCrosse atomic clock works perfectly. This Sharp version is defective. No matter what time zone is chosen, clock hands go around and around and stop at 12. Instructions suggest you "set clock manually and use it as a non-atomic clock." This was on sale for $35. A non-atomic plastic clock is $5
