Let me start by saying that I REALLY hate to roll up hoses by hand! If I don't have a working automatic hose reel, my hose just stays spread across the yard. I have had the Suncast Powerwind hose reels in the past - they run on a large, expensive battery. They work well, but are very noisy, and you do need to replace the batteries every few seasons. Mine lasted for several years, but when the last one died I decided to try the water powered type instead. It works every bit as well, but is beautifully silent! The hose winds up quickly - works just as advertised. My only hint would be to make sure you are watching the hose so it doesn't try to go in with a kink in it. I don't know why these are so hard to find in stores.... And I wish they were a little cheaper....
This is a very easy to use automatic rewind hose reel. I am 66 and it assembled easily and works very well so far. My only concern is during freezing temperatures it has to be put inside so it dosn't freeze anb break. This will add a little more work in the fall.
I bought my first one at Costco for about $50. Went back a few weeks later for another one but they were gone so I looked on-line and found Wal-Mart had the best price but still twice as much as my first purchase. But since it worked so well, I got it anyway. I have pressure relief valves on all my house faucets outside that I didn't ask for but they spray water all over the place when you turn them off. With the overflow hose (?) on the product, the spray is considerably reduced and carrying a towel is no longer necessary. The auto-rewind system is just what my wife needs when she waters her plants, since she suffers from arthritis in her fingers. You have to lay the hose out straight and/or folded back toward the house if too long so the system pulls it in without binding around walls, but doing so is not a problem since there is no more pulling a dirty hose back, trying to coil it into a reasonable pile and then having to unwind the kinks when you use it again. Good product, but 100 bucks is a little steep.
Received shipment earlier than originally notified, lowest price on the internet. Normally not a Walmart advocate, but changing my thoughts on the chain.
I bought 3 of these. 2 were for handicapped people that want to water plants but can not reel the hose by hand. This works better than expected. It is great for anybody. It is quiet, smooth, easy to operate, and strong enough to reel in heavy industrial strength hose. It is definitely a recommended product.
This product is so good, I ordered another one for my side patio. It makes watering the flowers a pleasant experience - not getting your hands dirty rewinding the hose. The product blends in well and the price is very affordable. I love this product
I have used this reel only about 6 times, so durability is really unknown. However, I am very pleased with the performance. I needed the capability to power-rewind at least 125' of hose due to shoulder and arm strenth limitation of my wife. The unit was well packaged, arriving undamaged. Instructions were very clear and simple. The only assembly was to push the drain hose onto a tube fitting, and drive two metal stakes into the ground to keep the reel from pulling itself toward the garden hose end. Also, the garden hose, provided by you, needs to be wound on to the reel manually the first time. The first pleasant surprise was that despite being rated for 125' of hose, I was very easily able to install a 150' coil of 5/8" medium-duty hose. To prevent future kinks or rewind problems, I highly recommend unrolling your hose across the yard like rolling a tire, not just pulling it sideways off of the coil, especially if new. This should leave no twists in the hose (mine had a stripe, making it visually apparent that the hose had no twists). Follow the instructions carefully to position the hose guide at the far left side when starting to manually wind your hose into the reel. This hose guide automatically leads the hose winding pattern to get a nice, tight pack on the reel, very reliably. Having 25' of extra hose, I was worried that the water-powered rewinder would not be strong enough to pull the hose in. Following the directions to walk the hose end (with the spray nozzle) back to the reel to make a long U-shape (you have to walk to the reel anyway to move the rewind lever), the machine did all of the work to rewind it perfectly. I do see why the instructions state to place the hose straight out from the reel, as it does have to pull pretty hard, and any angle would make the reel try to pull sideways on the stakes. The last observation is that there is definitely about 10-12 gallons of water discharged out the drain hose, which is the exhaust flow from the water-powered rewind motor. The discharge hose supplied is a non-reinforced hose that had some kinks which restricted discharge water flow somewhat and slowed the rewind process. Carefully reshaping the kinked areas greatly improved the speed of the rewind. I noticed that after several days in the sun, the discharge hose now seems to be normal and round, so this problem may just be evident in the first few uses. We direct the discharge flow onto a flower bed so it is not wasted. This flow of 10-12 gallons only occurs during the rewind process, not when you are normally using the garden hose. All in all, I like the performance and build quality of this Suncast RSW125 hose reel. Hopefully durability will be good as well.
Easy to set up and it does the job. The hose stop was sized too small for a 3/4 inch hose and I had to remove the center section to make it fit but otherwise great. However, the last unit I had broke The handle that retracts the hose is made of plastic and it broke after about 2 years.
It looks great, but I can't get the hose to wind back most of the time. The winding constantly gets stuck so I feel like I may as well wind it back by hand. It works for about one rotation and then gets stuck, so I have to manually turn it for several rotations until it starts working again.
Worst product ever. Cheaply made. Hose connectors should be metal, not plastic. Water pressure is so bad due to all the water leaking from the hose connection. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.
