Suncast 129-Gallon Deck Box with Seat was received within a reasonable timeframe in good condition. Pick-up at Walmart was a 'piece of cake.' The parts snap together with minimal effort. A one person job. The only downside is that you must close the lid properly to maintain a dry interior during a rain storm. Don't just drop the lid down as it will not close completely.
If I had chosen a patio storage box "to small" it would have been useless to me. I needed something large enough to contain my pools Solar cover. Once folded and rolled up the pool cover required a storage box big enough and solid enough to hold a heavy gauge vinyl cover that is nearly five feet long and twenty four inches in diameter. This Suncast 129-Gallon box has worked out great so far. There is room to spare and it went together in fifteen minutes. All the parts are plastic but fit together very well. Begin by snapping the walls to one another and then to its base. The cover fit snug but does not lock but a provision is molded into the cover so a cable style lock could be used. I'm pleased with my purchase so far. I live in Phoenix so Sun and Heat could take its toll in a short time? I plan to apply a plastic / vinyl protector spray on product to aid in its longevity. It could double as a bench seat but I wouldn't do so on a regular basis, after all its just plastic.
I needed some large, water proof and weather resistant outdoor storage boxes that are easy to clean and require minimum maintenance. These fit the bill perfectly and didn't break the bank. Yes, they are made of thin resin and seem flimsy, but the ribbed design makes them sturdy enough for their intended purposes. They go together easily; in high winds like we have here, they need to be tied down, and the lid must be secured. There is a provision on the front lip for tying the lid (I use a thin wire, but I don't think a padlock will fit), and you will need to devise a method for anchoring the boxes in a high wind exposure.
Great item, easy to put together, did it myself, I'm a 64yr old female. It's large enough to hold many items. So far no leaking.
Mostly satisfied, but: the lid is missing the plastic hinge piece. The manufacturer has been contacted. I don't want to dismantle this item just for the defective lid. Will see how long it takes to resolve this issue.
This is my third Suncast product (deck box) and I have had issues with all three. The box and instructions say no tools needed, but to properly install you need tools and a lot of force. I contacted their support to find out only one of the products (all three bought within two months) had a warranty and the other two I was out of luck and ($200) in defective products. Then when I questioned why a product less than two months had no warranty for being defective, customer service will not respond back to me. I would look elsewhere for a better built product, warranty and customer service.
I purchased this deck box because of the large size, good price & I liked that it had cleaner edges & flatter surfaces than the other popular brand that looks & feels more like "Rubber..." Mistake...I knew it immediately. The plastic is harder & more brittle than I expected....like it could more easily crack ....not give & take with people sitting on it (it's also a seat) or with the outside elements. While I was disappointed in the quality, I wanted the deck box that day & didn't want the hassle of returning such a large item, so I thought I'd keep it. However, when I tried to put the parts together (the directions were fairly simple) the side pieces did not snap into the back piece in all areas. I was quickly able to reach someone at the 800-line to ask assembly questions but it appeared after speaking to her that there was a problem with the back piece. She spoke about sending photos of the part & replacing the part, etc. I just wanted to return it. I bought the deck box instead that looks & feels more like "Rubber..." It was a few $ more, the directions were a little harder & I probably don't like the look as much....but it's MUCH better quality!
I ordered the 129 gallon storage box because after over 10 years in the hot sun, wind, and elements my 99 gal box latches broke off from very normal wear and tear. The new box didn't fit perfectly together and it was noticeably lighter to carry down to the pool. The top didn't fit flush on the box and I knew this wasn't going to be waterproof and protect contents inside. When we sat on the box the front panel bowed out and wouldn't support normal body weight. I called Suncast and they were going to send me 1 part at a time to hopefully rectify issue. These boxes are NOT designed to be disassembled!!! I went to local Walmart and was told I had to return to vendor. Went back a second time to order pick up and was told WM would take mdse back at cust. service. On third trip back I finally got the box returned. Its a shame Suncast changed the density of the resin used. Lucky I still have old box and a rock. If there was a negative star option I would have picked that. DO NOT RECOMMEND
For well over $100. I would have expected more from a company like SunCast. I would NOT recommend this product at all. Yes it was easily put together. The compliments stop there. You have to push in the front of the box to get the top to close. Then you have to pull the lid forward in each corner one at a time to get the lid to close there at the front corners as well. Also if your thinking about the storage box for extra seating....the person better be a small child.
While my husband and I were putting the deck box together we noticed a huge crack on one of the panels. The box did not seem real sturdy anyway, the matieral somewhat flimsy. We brought it back and got a refund. We then found a more durable one for thirty dollars more. It is still holding up on the deck. I would not recommend this product. Pay a few dollars more and get a lot more quality.
