It should be noted that the access to the battery is wisely held on with a very small Philllips head screw. You will need some kind of tool to remove the battery cover screw and then remove the little tab to engage the battery. A minor inconvenience if you know about it in advance. Great tool, very glad I purchased it.
My girlfriend did a lot of baking and candy making this past holiday, and I saw how she was struggling because didn't have a proper candy thermometer. This unit from Taylor solved the problem. She loves how it works and how easy it is to read. Highly recommended!
With the bent frame to keep the plastic and electronics awat from the rising heat of the oil, the steel clip that fits snugly on to any pot, and the long probe, this is the best temperature probe for the money I've found in decades. I use it for other food items like roasts, turkeys, loins, etc., but this it best used for pot and fryer items. I wouldn't recommend putting this in a turkey and leaving it in the oven. You should never do that with any battery powered thermometer with a plastic casing. There are analog thermometers that work better for that if you must keep your thermometer in the over. Anyway, it works great for everyday use, and is easy to clean up.
Bought this specifically for homemade churros with the grandkids...works perfectly! Great price, value, and quality. Not to mention, making priceless memories. 💗
i received this a couple days ago and have used it twice. fried some bartered cod . from first piece to the last ... perfect. most of the time the first piece is greasy and at some point I burn one or two. then later we made pecan brittle. perfect, not chewy or brick hard . should have purchased a new one years ago.
It works well and is easy to read, but two things irked me. %231, the stick is VERY short, I had to use a smaller pot just to get the thermometer into my liquid and my liquid almost boiled over. But in my big pot it didn't even come close to touching anything. %232, the thermostat kept automatically turning off. I assume this was because the temperature stayed consistent for a certain period of time? But I need to see every little temperature change, so having to turn it back on every few minutes was very annoying. Overall I think this is okay for large things where you're just checking the temperature periodically, but for confections, it misses the mark.
I think I misunderstood the instructions about removing the clear plastic film from the face and I scratched it. The thermometer is a good tool and I chose to keep it instead of the return routine. Overall good.
I couldn't give this a good review, but I couldn't tell people not to buy it. The battery was dead when I received it so I had to go and buy a battery but understandably they couldn't check it. It was cellophane wrapped.
Will not turn on and unable to unscrew the battery cover to replace the battery because the screw is so tight..
Did not work. Will not buy again.
