I ordered a stainless thermometer because I'm old school, but they didn't have one so this was the alternative. At first I was doubtful that I'd like it, but it actually works really well. I only wish the back light stayed on longer. It's great with checking meat temps while cooking, the digits on the screen are easy to read, it's much more compact that the old stainless ones so it fits right into my utensil drawer with no snagging or issues, and I am sure it will be a great asset in the summer when we grill
Easy to use %26 convenient. I want to try making a brisket and this is a necessity. Well made. As soon as you pull the plastic strip that covers the battery, it starts reading the room temp. Off button on back. Plus button to turn on light to view temp in dark areas or night time. I like it!
i like it and it's much easier to use and better than a round clock type thermometer, but the back light doesn't stay lit up long enough, and when i hit it again to light it back up, it shuts off, so i'm constantly turning it on and off, but other than that, it's nice and much better and accurate than what i had.
The deice works fine, but it doesn't turn on when you open the probe. You cannot read the display unless the light is on or in reflective light. Hard to do in the over. The light only stays on for 2-3 seconds. Then you have to find the button on the back to turn the it back on? Rather annoying. The buttons on the back are very small.. I don't recommend this temperature problem.
So they recently updated the model for this one to a slightly larger version. It actually reads temperature faster than the old model. Great! I thought. The old model lasted me about 1 and a half years before it broke. Sadly, the new model was either poorly designed or uses really cheap plastic. I bought this thing twice, thinking the first one must've been a fluke, and the first time the part where the needle connects to the device broke off entirely, while the second time (when I started being really careful with the needle to avoid the same thing from happening) the needle just popped out of the socket. I only got 3 uses out of it. Get a different brand, this just isn't worth it.
I thought that I would like it because of it's folding mechanism. Unfortunately though in my experience, the probe ended up snapping off after using the thermometer for a month or two. And so I would think that it's probably more vulnerable with repeated use, compared to a static probe.
This is a nice looking instrument, but functionally it is a bust. I expected much more from Taylor. 1) It is incredibly slow to measure temps. It takes 15 to 30 seconds to stabilize and read the temperature. This is far too slow for a digital thermometer by standards set by today's market. There are many options that read in a couple of seconds and faster. 2) The low temperature reading against ice in a glass of iced water was 34 degrees F. It should have much close to 32 degrees. I expected 32 and maybe a fraction. 3) The high temperature reading in rapidly boiling water was low: 209.7 to 210.0 (it never stabilized). This should have been 212 degrees F. The inaccuracies could be tolerated if the speed were better. But as it is, it is pretty worthless and will be relegated to the junk drawer.
I ordered two of these thermometers. One broke within just a few uses, which I returned. Two months later (beyond the return time allotment), the other one has broken. They literally fell apart when using. I had one prior to purchasing these ( I bought these as a gift and as a backup), which is still working fine, but the two recent purchases are cheaply made a not at all durable. I'm very disappointed and will look for another brand.
absolute trash. I had it for exactly 3 months and it broke. I was just finishing measuring the temperature of some chicken breast and went to close the gauge and the black plastic housing around the thermometer just fell apart. it's completely useless now. returning it.
Trashed this after just a few uses. It is SLOW. Real SLOW. Tenths of degrees count up forever. When is the real final temperature displayed? How long to wait? This is junk. Also, they did not include a MAGNET for storing on the frig but they did include an awkward ring to hang it from a hook.
