I've had this tank for over a year with just one Betta in there the whole time. Just switched out the light since it stopped working. I wasn't overly impressed by the light strength for seeing my Betta. My Betta wasn't fond of bubbles so I cut off the air supply. The whole light/bubbler component was hard to keep under the rocks, but it turned out my Betta preferred it on it's side and at an angle against the tank as a makeshift house to sleep under. I had read the reviews about some people being unhappy with the filter, so initially I bought a few different filters but none of them fit the opening in the lid. Overall I think the filter that came with the tank is acceptable, plus the filters come in a convenient 6 pack. I haven't had any problems with bowing or having issues putting the lid back on. The lid can hold a 15lb cat, but I recommend placing an object on top (I use an old butter container) to discourage the cat from sitting on the lid. Cat does occasionally drink the water from the filter, but is not a threat to fish. Due to water evaporation, I do recommend weekly water changes, but in general the smaller the tank you have the more often you should be cleaning the tank in the first place. Also Betta's are curious creatures and like changes in decor, so regular water changes provide a good opportunity to switch out decorations. Helpful hit, don't switch out decorations when the water is to the top (right under filter lip) since your arm will displace water. Also while the water is low don't forget to stir up the gravel once in awhile to help insure water quality stays optimal. If don't like the look of cords add a background, it'll help hide most cords.
Only had set up a day so far. Installation delayed because the kit did not have a Check-Valve included; had to purchase separately. Have noticed that the back bows out when filled with water so that the lid does not fit properly. This does not appear to affect operation however. Air pump noise is noticeable, but not objectionable. The half moon design makes it a little difficult to place decorations, plants, etc. due to the narrow depth. Otherwise, setup is easy, and all seems to function as it should. Pete (the granddaughter's fish) seems to be adjusting well to his new home, and the granddaughter likes it also. All things considered, therefore, we are satisfied with the purchase.
Got this for my first goldfish(I plan to get a bigger one soon for him to grow into) everything works fine, mine didnt come with a lid, the box was open when i bought it so someone else mightve taken it at the store, so make sure to check that all the parts are included if it looks like the box is open! But otherwise no problems, I plan to use it as a quarantine tank once I get a larger tank. Also it comes with 2 plugins, 1 for the air flow to both the bubbler and filter, the 2nd is just for the lights, which I was happy to find out so my fish can sleep in peace
I have to say, once I had the tank set up it is really pretty. Now for the problems: ♦To many wires and tubes. Having all these wires and tubes in the tank hanging all over takes away from the look a bit. Maybe if it was a bigger tank it wouldn't be as noticeable, but with this small tank it can be an eyesore. ♦The bubble stone around the light is to strong to be right in the center of the tank. I put a beta in the tank and it is to strong for him to swim through the center, which takes away from the usable space. I ended up taking the air tube out of it and keeping it just for the light. ♦As mentioned in another review, there is no shut off button for the light or the filter. I like to turn the filter off at feeding time, so this makes it a bit of an annoyance since the cord is in a hard to get to area in back of the desk. ♦Also mentioned was the tank lid not fitting properly. I actually only put 2.5 gallons of water in the tank so the water comes up to about 2 inches below the lid. Doing this made it not buckle, but you are losing space. If you look at the box front they fill it to the top of the tank, but in the directions the diagram shows it not filled completely, sort of contradicting itself. So overall I have to say it is a nice tank when you make some alterations to how it is shown on the box.
I bought this tank in February. Right off the bat, I had to hook the filter and bubbler to two different air pumps to get it to work properly. And now, the filter is acting up and the bubbler barely works. Other than that, it's been a great tank. Kind of awkward to clean at times though. If you get it, just be prepared to replace the filter and pump after a while.
i bought this tank for a betta fish. It is a great size for them but it is very flimsy. i have it filled to about an inch and a half from the top and the back bows out a little. the lid is very hard to get on because it bows. the filter is comes with is also very annoying. It is not a power filter and works kind of like an under gravel filter so it doesn't have good suction. the light in it is annoying because i thought it had an option to change the light but instead it just rotates out the colors. it is annoying and i took it out immediately after realizing this. the bubbled from it are too strong even when adjusting the air flow. the pump is pretty great though. it is quite strong. but instead of this tank i should have just purchased the five gallon one... i might actually take it back.
I got this tank for my betta because the design looked far more interesting than the standard fish bowl. The bubbler was a cool idea and the changing lights are very pretty. I just wished whoever made these tanks actually made a lid that fit it! It is so aggravating that every time you feed your fish, the lid goes plunging into the water with just the slightest touch. In my opinion this tank is overpriced for the quality you get.
This design is terrible I'm the type of person who likes to hide all tubes and wires. If your like me do not get this one. Its a waste of money. I got it as a temporary tank till I can get a better one. The filter absolutely sucks my tank is always very foggy even with cleaning all the supplies and decorations and the tank before hand and even with the tank liquid correctors. I cant even fit my better filter in and try to make this work till.
Just set it up and the tank leaks profusely all around the bottom seam. The air pump is not powerful enough to handle both the filter and the bubbler light that's included in the kit. This is worthless junk. I'm taking it back now
This aquarium is cheap in quality but not in cost. The cover falls in & if there is any damage to the cord on the light/bubbler you are out of luck because they do not make replacement parts. It takes a lot of work just to keep the bubbler in place & is more of a hassel then anything. I definately should have spent a little more & purchased a better quality tank from a fish supply store. Completely disappointed. I also called Tetra as the cord for the bubbler for my tank was damaged & I was told that I would have to purchase a whole new tank instead of replacing just the one part. I will NOT buy another Tetra aquarium again.
