CONSIDER THAT THE STORY IS BASED ON A H.G. WELLS NOVEL FROM 1895 ~AND~ THIS ORIGINAL VERSION WAS MADE IN 1960! ★IT HAS EXCELLENT SPECIAL EFFECTS REGARDLESS OF THIS FILMS AGE! I CAN'T IMAGINE THAT ANYONE WOULDN'T ENJOY IT! ★★★HOWEVER, A VERY YOUNG CHILD OR ANYONE WITH A "HYPERSENSITIVITY TO BATTLE/WAR SCENES" MAY FIND IT UPSETTING★★★

One of my old favorites movies finally on Blue Ray. The movies is great and I will recommend to anyone.

An old classic 1960 time travel movie starring Rod Taylor

A Classic. Very well redone in blu- ray.

I saw 'The Time Machine' when I was a kid when it was first released in 1960. Although I was aware of the not so subtle anti-war message, it has a greater impact on my now since I lived through The Cold War, Vietnam, Iraq #twice# and Afghanistan. At any rate, it still is one of my top ten favorite sci-fi films of all time. The effects are still pretty good considering the time it was made, having won an Oscar for visual effects. The story still holds up and the acting is quite good although Yvette Mimieux is pretty bland but still gorgeous nonetheless. The real improvement is the visual quality of the Blu-ray version. The original DVD release was, to be blunt, pretty terrible. The colors were washed out and many of the shots were very grainy particularly those of the sphinx and other matte scenes. This version is nice & crisp, the Metrocolor lives up to its name and I'm seeing stuff I never noticed before. The sound track has NOT been enhanced from what I could tell but it still very good with its rousing score. So, if you currently own the DVD version, give to your local library and pick up this disk. You won't be disappointed. I should also mention that the Blu-ray also has the film's trailer along with a nice 47 minute documentary about George Pal followed by a nice mini-sequel where Rod Taylor, Allen Young & Whit Bissel are reunited to 'finish' the story. This 1993 feature was also on the DVD version.
