This product has been around for years. My husband told me years ago try it you'll like it.I like it lol.It is salty probably because I am not a fan of salt. I still buy this product. Great on any kind of crackers or good as a sandwich. Love the 4-pk.Its cheaper the more you buy.
I have been eating this for 40 years. Make it like this: toast English muffin each half , spread ham generously to each half, add tomato slice on top, then cheese ( i use shredded cheddar) or thin slice of your choice, broil or micro if impatient melt and yummmm, oh going to make it now
This Ham Potted Meat is the only product that can be used in a very old southern family "Twice Baked Potatoes" recipe that has been handed down from one generation to the next. Underwood Deviled Ham Spread is the main ingredient after the hot inside of the Potatoes 🥔 then the next 6 ingredients. Thanks Walmart for still having Underwood on your grocery shelves.
I picked up the Underwood Deviled Ham Spread mainly for quick lunches and snacks, and overall it does the job pretty well. The texture is smooth and easy to spread, especially on crackers or toast, and it has that classic deviled flavor with a bit of tang. It's definitely convenient having the small cans—perfect portion size without worrying about leftovers going bad. I've even mixed it with a little mayo and relish to stretch it out, and that worked great. My only real downside is the saltiness. It's not unbearable, but it's noticeable, especially if you're eating a lot at once. Cutting it with something like crackers or adding a little extra ingredient helps balance it out. Overall, it's a solid pantry item to keep around for something quick and easy, just be aware of the sodium if that's something you watch.
I really like this product, although it is quite salty. I normally avoid salty food, but this is something I turned to when I get the occasional craving for something salty. I also like to keep it in the refrigerator before I open the cans because the fat solidifies in the cold, which makes it easier to remove from making sandwiches.
I like this product for only one thing: to spread on Oroweat Jewish Rye Bread or toast and spread with sweet pickle relish on top of the ham paste. The flavor has diminished over the years. I wish they would go back to the original recipe from 40 years ago and before. Now there is a layer of fat around the inside edge of the cans that was never there before. The price is way too high for what it has devolved to.
I have eaten this for years and always enjoyed it. However, the last several times I have purchased it I have found there to be a rather "deep" layer of just GREASE in the bottom of the can which makes it rather nasty and un-appetizing! For the cost of this product, I would think that Underwood would make a pleasing product. NOT one that is somewhat inedible!!!
underwood meats used to offer pretty good meat spreads at an affordable price. i wanted to keep some on hand for quick meals. They have greatly reduced the can size while increasing the price. Half of these small cans is thick solidified fat. one can used to make a few sandwhiches now only makes one and a half. The ham spread still has a good taste once you get past the fat. It goes well with mayo or mustard, pickle relish and onions. The smaller cans for this price is not the best budget friendly meat option.
The bean counters at these companies just keep down grading the quality of the foods we grew up eating to maximize profit.now the layer of grease on top has gotten thicker and the taste and texture is like a cheap pet food. The first photo is the grease on top which is also on the sides and the second photo is after i removed the top layer of grease.
There is a thick layer of fat in the can, but worse than that > it's too salty. Walmart's brand of corned beef, Spam, condensed soups, chunky soups, tuna and salmon are superior to Underwood's deviled ham. Maybe it tasted better when I was a kid, but not anymore. 5 thumbs down.
