Unicorn Overlord, PlayStation 5

If you like strategy and granular command games this is a good one. Its unique on ps5 because the fire emblem games are Switch specific. I did some sleuthing between the ps5 and switch version. I preferred the better graphics of the ps5 version. Plus I use remote play on my phone if I want to play away from the main screen.

This game won't be for everyone. But it's 100% for me. It offers an extremely unique take on strategy RPG gameplay that isn't your traditional turn-based SRPG combat or RTS, but something in between. Before diving into battles, you have the exhilarating task of assembling your units. This includes a variety of class types, from melee soldiers and tanky warriors to fleet-footed thieves and light/dark mages. Each unit is equipped with "gambits," which essentially pre-select the commands they'll follow during battle under various conditions. This system is reminiscent of the gambit system from Final Fantasy XII but on a larger and more intricate scale. The true charm lies in the combination of units, equipment, and moves, which goes far beyond the traditional "rock, paper, scissors" gameplay many RPGs employ for strengths and weaknesses (e.g., fire beats ice or magic beats armor). This complexity makes composing the most optimal units for battles genuinely challenging yet immensely satisfying when you crack the code. Marry this intricate gameplay with Vanillaware's standout aesthetic style, and you have a veritable feast for RPG fans. The visual artistry is nothing short of breathtaking, elevating the entire gaming experience to a new level of enjoyment. In conclusion, while this game might not cater to everyone's tastes, it is an absolute gem for those seeking a fresh and rewarding strategy RPG experience. The complexity, challenge, and beauty of the game come together to create an unparalleled adventure that is 100% for me.

If you like tactical RPGs this is a great one. So note that you're going to read a lot and I mean a lot early on but as the story progresses it, really opens up into a great RPG

If you've ever played ogre battle on the super nintendo this is like a spiritual successor to that and it's awesome.

Unicorn Overlord is secretly a GOTY contender. Vanillaware always creates games with gameplay that challenges the status quo and Unicorn overlord doesn't disappoint. It's kind of a blend of FF Tactics Ogre Battle but with it's own flair. if you played Fallout 1/2, Ogre Battle, Tactics Ogre, FFTactics, Fire Emblems.. etc... this is worth dropping 100 hours on over a couple playthroughs.
