just bought this weider pro 8500 and the entire family can work out together instead of waiting for machines at 24 hour fitness and catching so many viruses going around--very happy with the product and came all the way to Hawaii in 3 weeks-easy to assemble and very quality workout cage. absolutely love it--thanks sams club for pulling thru with a great product for a great price.
This smiths machine was a great buy for us as a home gym. My husband was able to assemble it in about 2 days. It is a bit overwhelming when you open the 2 big boxes and see a ton of random parts but the instructions were mostly clear. It says that it came with grease but we never found it in the box. We had to go buy some at the hardware store. Also, as you unbox the black steel rods you will notice some of them are dented. My husband and I freaked out and thought it was damaged but later found out it was actually the way it was designed. The shoulder adduction press is a bit flimsy in design but still does the job. Overall it was worth what we paid for it and we are getting good use of it
Overall machine is pretty nice for having at home. I use mostly free weights but needed something for tricep pull downs, lats, etc. It's great for those, however the chest flies are terrible. Huge resistance to start them they just slam together like there is no weight. Both arms come together at different times. Extremely awkward in comparison to ant other machine I've used. Could be an assembly error but doubtful because everything else works great. I love flies so very disappointed about this. Also, assembly isn't terrible but could be made so much easier if parts were labeled. Realistically I'd give 3.5 stars if it was an option but I feel 3 would be unfair because the price was great on Sam's Shocking Values. If I would have paid full price, my review would not be as generous.
The high cable came with one only one end threaded so I couldn't finish assembly but they're sending me a new one right away. Other than that I think it's a perfect buy for a home gym that won't break the bank.
Love the machine. The pully system is a Brain Buster to put together. Not a big fan of the fly system for chest but all and all great machine for a great price!!!
Performs most of the gym routines I need. Assembly was reasonable, instructions well documented. 3 areas that could use improvement: - Butterfly movement is not consistent throughout the arc - a cam or something elliptical on the arms would fix that. - Cables are not long enough to use both for upper body exercises simultaneously, perhaps differential introduced via different diameter pulleys would work. - Removable leg section of bench to allow it further in the cage for upper body exercises.
Negative: 1. No fly workout. Front pulley system is not long enough for this. Easy fix though. Just buy an extra carabiner(system comes with one) and loose chain(lowes sells) and hook up. This extends length and allows for fly workout. 2. Time consuming setting up, but this is kind of expected. 3. Bushings for pec workout are just about impossible to place even with greasing them. The unit still works without them though. Positive: 1. Overall great combination of cable and protected free weight cage machine. Plenty of workouts for most.
This is definitely a quality product with a great deal of variability in exercises and convenience. A few things that would make this an even better product are the following: When using the Smith's Machine (both top pulleys), the lines are not long enough to perform the exercises. 1 chain comes with the purchase, but you will need to buy another to extend the lines to do the exercises. The pulleys for the chest flexer are not smooth and there should be a bumper on the inside frame of it. It would be nice to have wheels on the bench to move easily. Because of the length of the base of the bench, it needs to be turned around for various exercises (military press, etc.) and moved completely to use the lower pulley. The black paint scratches off right away from loading and unloading weights. It would be nice to have duel lower Smith Machine pulleys. The top crossbar would be better served as a pull-up bar. The preacher curl pad on the bench is shaky but strong. I know that sounds like a lot of negative, but I just want buyers to be informed and possibly for Weider to improve this product. I do believe that it is a good product, sturdy and versatile. I am happy with my buy. However, I do believe that the price is slightly high for the cage without any weights. I already had weights from my Weider Pro X75.
i gave it 2 stars because it will work but the quality is not there for the price. Mr. Weider would be ashamed. To start when it got here the box was beaten up and torn. One of the support beams at the bottom was dented and scratched. DIdnt see it until I unpacked it. Once you unpack the 388 pound pieces, good luck getting it back in to return. The top support bar didnt fit and I had to drill an new screw hole in the back to make it fit. The bench and curl bench I expect will last 6 months. The fake vinyl will not withstand someone with big arms and heavy weight. There are a ton of parts, (came in 2 boxes). So moving it later would be a great challenge. I have a friend who has the powertec and it has literraly 4 pieces, and it is made of better quality steel and the stitching is better on the seats. I should have waited for it to come back in stock. Now I have a dented machine, that 25% as robust that i think will probably last about 1 or so under daily use. as a reference I tend to do light work outs with about 135 pounds up to 245. So I am in the middle and by no means a professional bodybuilder. So will it get the job done yes, but not for long and dont expect to return it, its a nightmare unpacking it, more less trying to haul it back to Walmart at 388 pounds.
Horrific delivery scheduling. I bought that "Handy" install and that company cancelled and rescheduled five (5!) times before coming. Then the technician said it's a two person job and just gave up. The pulleys for extensions, both of them, broke already. Just the smith machine part is functional now, great. "Weider" doesn't even have a website, so when you buy the product and it breaks (guaranteed will break) good luck getting in touch with someone at the manufacturer to service their warranty. Bought an extended warranty through Walmart? Good luck getting in touch with someone. The process is INTENTIONALLY hard to discourage you from filing a claim. Please, don't buy this product. I was expecting it to last 10 years, but man this thing is so disappointing.
