White Lightning® Chain Breaker Tool®

It arrived on time and was exactly what I needed and better.

delivery at my home in under twelve hours for an item that wasn't in stock at my local store.

I volunteer at a bike shop in Rochester, NY that repairs donated bikes and gives them away for free to the community. As we get alot of old, poorly maintained bikes, many times the chains are completely bound, rusted solid and in need of replacement. We have 10 repair stations in the shop and during free repair days (walk-ins) and bike refurbishment for free give-aways we use chain breakers quite often and it is a tool that is a "hot-commodity" around the shop and we never seem to have enough of them. I have used various makes of chain breakers in my 5 years at the shop and this product is one of, if not the most durable, robust and ergonomic ones I have used. Some products don't have the "Adjusting Bolt" on the opposite side of the pin-pushing arm which can lead to the chain slipping from the guides and link plates being damaged or the push pin non being secure and centered on the pin and tightening at an awkward angle. This can lead to the push pin on the tool being damaged. The ergonomics of this tool are excellent with double sided pin-pusher arms, coated in thermoplastic overmold and an ergonomic handle. I would recommend this product to the casual bike repairer and the seasoned mechanic.

I LOVED THAT I GOT FREE DELIVERY AND IT ARRIVED THE SAME DAY.

Would have gave it five stars if I didn't manage to break it the very first time I used it. Leaving me wondering just how good it was. Even after breaking the pin itself, not realizing I was placing the chain wrong it still managed to break the chain pin out with half a pin. I ended up letting a buddy use it who broke its final bit of life the same way probably. I kid you not when I tell you the Amazon replacement he got me was more heavy duty but had no housing to place the chain perfectly like this one did and had a crooked pin that's almost impossible to hold straight. That being said this is a solid lightweight product but you must take the time to learn how to use it correctly and fit the chain in the teeth like a sprocket or risk the damage that comes almost instantly! Even on the Amazon one those pins snap quick if it hits at the wrong angle.

Well. It's broken already. Lol
