Bought this especially for the new discs. Also bought the 6 piece set with reindeer, bow, etc. Looking forward to additional seasonal sets that are promised to be available later this year. The press is okay, but difficult to clean. The rod that presses dough forward is not removable for washing (not that I can find). That means that it must be washed keeping water, soap, etc our of the top housing. The discs are difficult to "seat" when press has been used. I found that it was necessary to wash the ring in order to get the disc in place. That is frustrating when just changing shape of cookie. For me, it was worth it to get the special discs.
The cookie press and the many moulds worked very well. It is crucial to have the cookie dough being on the "drier" side. If the dough is too buttery, the dough sticks to the bottom of the press after the 2nd (and 3rd & 4th) click. A drier mix worked well with 2 clicks and sometimes a 3rd click if the dough didn't release from the bottom after the 2nd click. The cookies in the photo were created in a single afternoon, using different flavours and icings. The cookie press is not good at providing a consistent shape with every cookie, however it met our purposes at providing that "homemade" touch.
When my daughter gifted me with this cookie press two Christmases ago, I was so excited. However, during our first recipe of spritz, one of the shape rings broke. Still we made it work. Yesterday I was making a batch of spritz for a funeral at church. Imagine how awful it was when the handle that you squeeze to release the dough broke off from the machine. Hurriedly I scooped out the dough and made little round ball cookies that I flattened so I had the platter of cookies I had promised. Due to being made from plastic parts, the cookie shape press parts break easily, and once the stress point of the release handle broke, the unit is useless. Unfortunately the best intentions of our daughter to buy a needed kitchen gift that would last for years has been thwarted by poor design and materials.
This is my third year using this press. The handle just broke, rendering it useless. I would expect higher quality for the "preferred" cookie press.
I bought this a few years ago, got 80 % of cookies done, then rubber grip handle cracked off. Send email to wilton- say they moved locations, have no replacement parts and to have a good day! OMG 2 days before Christmas.
First Time we tried to use this, the handle snapped. Made a dough from the included recipe book and squeeze handle snapped before the first cookie was made.
Second time using and if you use any of the smaller holed templates the handle snaps off. Don't waste your money, go with cheaper or metal. Very frustrating.
I bought this product on Saturday, looking forward to making multiple batches of quick press out cookies on Sunday, what a nightmare. It took me 8 hours to press out 100 little cookies. Ridiculous! It seems it 'may' only work with the 3 recipes they provide, but if you try to use another 'cookie press' recipe it will not release the cookies. I had to scrape them off with a small spatula. This happened with two different cookie press approved recipes I used (a shortbread and a spritz). It's horrible that you are confined to ONLY using their recipe. I didn't try their recipe as I was so frustrated after my 8 wasted hours that I just surrendered. A cookie press should work with all cookie press recipes. I even tried small tips like chilling my Wilton pans before pressing. It's back in the box and going back to the store. I am surprised and shocked since Wilton is my first 'go to' when it comes to baking items. VERY disappointed Wilton.
I bought this after the Wilton Press my Grandmother used since I was kid finally broke. I figured it was the one to buy since her Wilton lasted for decades. I was wrong! After the first row the "clicker" quit working! Took it apart to see if something was stopping it; but No everything was together just the way it should be. Took it back to the store, but since I didn't keep the box or the receipt they wouldn't let me return it. So now I have 1 row of Christmas Tree cookies and a cookie press that doesn't work. So Frustrated!! Merry Christmas!
I bought the holiday disks because I thought they would work with my tried and true cookie press (it's an old one). The disks didn't fit so I bought the Wilton Preferred Press. Tried making Spritz cookies with it today. Big disappointment! The "one click" cookie is nonsense. It took at least two clicks and then I ended up with distorted shapes. With my old cookie press I can fill a cookie sheet in seconds. This one is a waste of time and money.
