Mainstay has the best oil filled radiator heaters I have purchased of any brand, I always check the heat out put with a heat gun and Mainstay brand is the only brand I've found that actually puts out the amount of heat they are supposed to on the high setting.
Our HVAC blower fan motor went out right before Thanksgiving. It was going to be 5 weeks before a new motor would be delivered. We purchased four of these heaters and placed them strategically throughout our 2300 sq ft home. We had several nights that the outdoor temperature was below freezing. We were able to keep our home between 66°-68°. This type of heater radiates heat slowly, but very consistently. It puts out a lot of heat and is designed for large rooms.
Our heat pump was out for two months waiting for back-ordered parts. We placed this in my 2 yo son's bedroom and it kept the ~120 sq ft space very comfortable with temperatures outside below freezing. Far better results than the small fan-blower style 1500w heaters.
Used these before. The last one was in use 24/7 whenever uninsulated breezeway temp fell below 40*F. I live near Lake Superior so significant cold is common. Lasted 4 years this way. It still gives off heat but on coldest days - near or below zero - breezeway only gets to mid 40's so I got a new one this year and today temp was 18*F and breezeway very comfy at 52*F and not at max setting. So at approx. $50 that's a whopping $12.50/year. My only complaint is the local Wally's no longer stocks it in store so takes extra 3-4 days for delivery when ordered online.
Six years ago, I bought a Mainstays oil filled heater from Walmart. It has worked wonderfully. I found myself needing a second one in our two-story house and immediately I remembered how well ours has worked. It has been reliable and warms very well. It is so simple to operate.
This has kept my garden shed at 40 degrees in freezing temperatures. It uses very little electricity. My shed is not insulated. I store items in there that I do not want to freeze, but also do not want to store in the house. It can be used without ventilation. It will not kill off seedlings when they are just getting started on heat mats under grow lights. Traditional space heaters use too much electricity and LP gas heaters will kill seedlings.
It arrived with one of the tines bent but I didn't think (with it being where it was) that it would hinder the effectiveness of the heater to do its job. I have one (different brand) that I've used for years. When I plugged it in and started it up it made loud popping noises which Zi assumed was the oil heating up inside. My other one never made that sound but I marked it up to being a less expensive unit. before going to bed at night, I make the rounds checking on everything and securing the perimeter. The electrical cord was SO HOT I unplugged it immediately to be safe. I will be taking it back after our cold snap (freezing rain, snow and ice) we're not accustomed to here in the Dallas area. It may not be that brand but instead just a defective one. I won't take a chance.
Heqat output seems low. I've hardly used it yet the caster arms seem to be compromised already. Heat out put seems low compared to five others I have owned, one currently owed and operating for side by side trial, If you look at the typical failures thjat end these oil heaters, close to the iop is the controls behind those settings knobs. These knobs feel like they're attached to insubstantial, poor quality units. when I get around to measuring actual current draw I will have setailed specific nimbers about heat output. If I am wrong, and if I can revise this review, then at that time I will.
Purchased 3 of these over a few months. One stopped working after only 3 months of use. Company's warranty is useless. Requires shipping product to their repair center at your expense with no guarantees that you won't be charged for the repairs and return shipping back to you.
These heaters gave off no heat, even sitting right in front of them. You could only feel the heat if you put your hand on them. I would not not recommend these at all. I was desperate as my furnace broke and I needed to save my pipes from freezing Spending all that money on these two heaters did not help a single bit a total waste of my money.
