This comes with a full pound of pasta! Not like the name brands that dialed back a number of years ago to 2/3 of a pound, so you had to buy two bags and try to guesstimate a third from the second bag. Everyone knows that dry pasta is sold by the pound, but the big manufacturers of egg noodles found a way to improve their profitability at the public's expense. This bag throws that trend into reverse and is just what the doctor ordered in our age of inflated food prices. If they were a little bit wider like the big brands, I'd have liked that better. Still, even as is I felt great about purchasing this bag, enjoyed cooking it, enjoyed eating it, and look forward to many more purchases of this and other Walmart branded better alternatives at a cut price.
I have a Kosher Noodle Kugel recipe that uses Great Value Medium Egg Noodles (OU Pareve) and is so good I ate it all before I took a photo. Will add one after the next batch. Here it is. Boil up 2 packs of noodles following the packet directions, adding a tablespoon of oil and two teaspoons of salt to the boil. Mix well during the boil. While boiling, preheat the oven on convection bake to 350°F In a big bowl, crack 8 or 9 eggs depending on size, add half a cup of oil, one cup water, two teaspoons of salt, two tablespoons of onion powder (granulated works) and half a teaspoon of black pepper. Mix until frothy or your writ gives out. Prepare 3 x 7inch square pans with foil liner oiled inside to easy release the baked kugel later. Drain the boiled noodles into an over sing colander and run cold water over them to cool so the egg will not congeal. Put the drained noodle back into the pot and add the frothy egg mixture, stirring again until your other wrist gives out. Ladle out the mix equally into the 5 pans, making sure both liquid and noodles are evenly distributed. Bake on the same rack (or rotate half way if not possible) for around 40 - 45 minutes. Start watching at 35 minutes as every oven gives a different result. When golden to darkish brown on top they are done. Have a cooling wire rack ready to receive them. When cool enough, take the best looking kugel and upturn it onto a cutting board. Peel off the foil, should be easy if you oiled it ok, and with a very sharp, large knife, cut 9, 12 or 16 pieces. I do 9 so I can eat is quicker... The corners are the best. You will hear the knife crunch through the top which is face down. Put the foil back over the cut up kugel and the baking pan as well. Using the cutting board for support, flip it back over. Repeat. Repeat. Of course by now half the first kugel has mysteriously vanished. (Burp.) When fully cooled, put in ziplock bags for freezing. Crunchy goes gluggy in the fridge or freezer after a while. To reheat to original yumminess and crunch, put the kugel into the oven at 325°F for about 20 minutes. Test it to see if crispy again. Sits well on a Shabbos Platter after reheat. do not cover if you want crispy. Put onto an overturned foil pan to prevent drying out but keep warm. And if you are not keeping Kosher, make this anyway. It is soooo good! ENJOY!!!! Great Value Medium Egg Noodles, 16 oz
Another Great Value brand -egg noodle that is as good or better than the NAME brand. These noodles are packed full of protein...texture is smooth once boiled. I use them in multiple casseroles and they are an inexpensive way to get more protein in your recipes. I highly recommend them!
I think these used to be called small. Medium is subjective, they are still the smallest twisted egg noodles. They cook faster and they don't stick to each other. These smaller ones are easier to eat neatly, longer ones can be sloppy to eat. The twist means a pound bag of these is fairly bulky. I want a whole grain version of these, smart eaters prefer whole grains.
As the home chef for my family of 7, I cook a lot of food. I purchase the Great Value Medium Egg Noodles about every other week. I like the packaging and the noodles are never broken. I use the noodles in chicken or beef noodle soup, I make delicious "Cafeteria Noodles" (look up the recipe), casseroles, and with Beef Stroganoff and my youngest child prefers them boiled with butter and parmesan cheese sprinkled on them. Don't purchase the more expensive bag when the Great Value brand is just as good.
Since I use egg noodles mixed with other ingredients, I have to say these are perfect. Great Value saves you money and I recommend these highly. Now, if the noodle was the star of your meal, I would honestly choose a name brand, but these are not going to disappoint you. I recommend them.
I have been using these noodles to make my chicken and noodles and let me just say, I have had so many compliments! I was using more expensive noodles but these are sooo much better. The length, width, texture, cooking time and taste are all just perfect. Don't change a thing!
Great product, and someone FINALLY packed a shipment that survived the delivery. Cheap packaging and someone that hasn't been taught to pack products, cost EVERYONE down the chain.
I've been buying these eeg noodles for many years , but these noodles have changed lately. They are noticeable smaller and no longer expand much after cooking. I might try the wider noodles in the future.
There has been a major change in these noodles in the last few weeks. The noodles in the bag no longer have the twist that they had and when you cook them they lay flat and they're sticky. They used to look like the label photo after cooking and they had body and consistency. Now they look like they boiled for an hour after a 7 minute boil. What you get now for the price is of no value at all. I fed them to my local Deer. Spend a dollar more and buy name brand.
