Perfect for turning compost, breaking up clay soils, or just aerating your garden. I'm 5'7" and the height of the tool is perfect for me. Big guys might strain their back with it. The fork is built really well and will probably last many years. I love my Ames spading fork!
I was worried that this tool would be of poor quality due to its price being so much lower than any other spading fork. It is solid in weight, firm, and works well. I have used it for my compost piles. It works much better than a shovel in the piles. It picks up and turns everything well. This tool has a heaviness that seems to help it easily dig deep and cut and twist through a solid pile with no problems. The weight of it is no problem for me, since there is only so much material that you can fit onto a spading fork anyway - which makes it good for your back. The fork requires less strain than a shovel. I thought it being only 4 foot tall might have been an issue for me (6 ft. tall), but it is fine. I love it. I do not plan to use it for anything like snow, ice, or driving it hard into hardened clay soil. I have seen reviews about how this type of shovel sometimes breaks. I do not think it was meant for banging or slamming it into a very hard surface. If it cannot drive through with a push or stepping onto it, I always use something else to break through the ground first.
I've only used it a couple of times, but it sure appears to be of strong build, good overall quality. I love it!
I use the spading fork more than a shovel. Love it!
Smaller than I thought it would be but love it and it works really well!! My first spade fork.
It was hard to use in the beginning, but the tool is sturdy, I am weak.
wasnt wide enought but still a sturdy tool
The plastic D-handle is loose and a bit flimsy, and is only connected by one fastner to the wooden shaft. I hope it does not break or come off.
Bought this thinking it was made in US, made in china assembled in US. Has a wood handle which is not finished properly. Not worth it. Best to pay a bit extra get something will last
It BROKE the first use... Trying to return it now, but the website is having issues too. Sigh. Had dreams of accomplishing some stuff this weekend too.
