This is the best ant guard out there! Other ant guards require water as a barrier to stop the ants which require constant monitoring,if the water evaporates the ants are not stopped. The Woodlink ant guard has a raised surface inside the bell, you wipe Vaseline on that surface and it lasts the entire season, the ants can't get over the Vaseline, I use them on my oriole feeders and my humming bird feeders and have never had a problem with ants. I have gifted some to my brother and my dentist and they love them.
This is an attractive and efficient way of keeping ants off the hummingbird feeders. It is so much better than the upside down umbrella which depended on having water in it. Always had to make sure there was water in it. This one is no maintenance !!!
This really works. No more ants on my hummingbird feeder.
I LOVE this product design as an alternative to the traditional "ant mote," and elimates the need to constantly fill the mote with water, and is efficient at keeping the ants off the feeder!
Effectively keeps ants away from the feeder without repellent chemicals or needing to keep a reservoir filled with water.
This little bell keeps ants and other crawlies out of my hummingbird feeder. Works like a charm...just add Vaseline to inside of the bell. Now if only I could find something to keep flies and bees out...
Keeps the ants out of my hummingbird feeders like a charm.
Audobon should not put its name to this item. While the concept seems well designed and should work to keep the largest ants out of the hummingbird food, the design cannot be implemented as shipped. Its manufacturers made an error when they selected, likely to keep the price low, the smallest of the small "S" hooks to use to attach the bell to the shepherd's hook holder and the liquid feeder to the bell. The super small "S" hooks will not fit over any yard hook I've found that is strong enough to support the weight of the feeders . In this case a few pennies more for 2 larger "S" hooks would have resulted in a much higher rating.
The S hooks provided with this product are too small to use with any normal hummingbird feeder or tree hook. And the hole at the top of the bell is too small to use any larger S hook that you buy separately. I would have hoped that the National Audubon Society would have put a little more thought into the specifications of this product before they put their name on it. However, now that I have jury-rigged my own attachments for the top and bottom of the bell, I am hopeful that this will keep the ants out of my hummingbird feeders.
Ants just used it as a stepping stone.
