These 32oz feeders hold a lot of sugar water and it takes the hummingbirds a good while to empty it. It works just fine and the birds have no trouble finding it or using the feeding ports. I ended up buying two of the 16oz feeders from the same maker because the little rascals fight over them like crazy. It's easy to clean and filling it is just as easy. The size is really good if you don't want to hang multiple feeders. I thought we only had two or three hummingbirds using it but after hanging the smaller feeders we saw more than a dozen birds fighting over them. I would purchase it again.
Finally, The Best Feeder for a Crowd! We've tried every kind of Hummingbird feeder on the market today, but this does it all: it keeps insects (esp bees) from finding the nectar, with a unique “slit” design . . . and has multiple perches for the birdies to relax while drinking. But, the best feature is the LARGE capacity, which lasts most of the day. We bought two, and are currently attracting 25 - 30 Hummingbirds of different varieties, everyday. We make our own nectar and clean the feeders daily. If you are a Hummingbird enthusiast, or would like to be, buy this one!
My other hummingbird feeders got overtaken with bees this year and I'd look out and see 10 bee butts in the air because the bees had their front halves deep down into the holes. This new feeder has slits that the hummers can get their tongues into but the bees can't get in. I still use the old ones because I want to help the bee population, which I understand is on the decline.
This is an excellent hummingbird feeder as long as you keep it filled to the TOP as often as possible, and keep it out of the wind. Strong wind will swing the feeder and splash the water/sugar mix out to the ground (where the ants will have a feast). The heavier the feeder (maximum water/sugar mix), the less the feeder will swing. For a standard hummingbird mix, use 1 part white granulated sugar to 4 parts water by volume. Filling this feeder for the first time mix ¾ cups of sugar with 3 ¼ cups of water. CAUTION: After filling the feeder and tightening it closed, rotate the feeder as QUICKLY as possible 180 degrees (upright). Expect to spill some water/sugar mix when doing this. The feeder is made of all plastic and is completely red except for the black hanging hook at the top. The bottom is 6 ½ inches wide, 5 inches wide at the top, and 10 inches high. Per advice from experienced users, I hung my feeder facing east under the porch to avoid the direct afternoon sunlight of central Florida.
It's bigger than most in this price range and if you're a true hummingbird feeder you don't need bigger as you should change the sugar water out every 3 days, no later than 5. Don't use that red crap. Make your own 4 cups boiling water to 1 cup cane sugar. Let cool.
We redid the porch decor (new outdoor carpet, two cushy pillowy sofas, new porch curtains), and I decided to expand 'birdie facilities' so that we could enjoy watching the birdies while we relaxed on the upgraded porch - these hummingbird feeders are MUCH BIGGER than the ones I had, and adding them, plus another seed feeder and a nice roomy hanging birdie bath, to the porch surrounds, should increase the number of little winged visitors we get this summer!
These are the absolute best hummingbird feeders. They have a wide mouth opening that makes them not only easy to fill but also very easy to clean, unlike the ones with tiny openings requiring specific brushes to get clean. These are made of a strong plastic that doesn't scratch easily %26 is really tough. It doesn't have the little flowers that always break. If you drop it putting up, it usually won't break. Also they come with hooks built in, no need to purchase them separately. Love these %26 they last many seasons.
It's a very attractive feeder. I love the appearance, but it is not bee proof. Bees are regular visitors. Hummingbirds will be arriving this week. I hope that this will solve the problem. So far i haven't had any problem with ants. ot squirrels. Cross my fingers.
I don't know who thought two "A" shaped slits fit a hummingbird's beak, but it doesn't. The hummingbirds here haven't touched it. Every other feeder I have ever owned has small round holes, kind of like (duh) the center of a flower. I'm not going through the hassle of sending it back, I'm just going to drill 8 holes. Don't buy it unless you are prepared to do that.
I've purchased these in the past and loved the feeding arrangement as did the birds. These new ones leaked nectar and made a mess below which attracted the ants. Tried them several different times and they continued to leak. Would not recommend this product.
