Pennington Earth Smart Opal Grey Hopper Wild Bird Feeder, 2.5 lb. Capacity

I use hanging feeders and ground feeders for different sizes and types of birds. I have tried different types and sizes over the years. The hanging feeder I am using now is very good (I have 2 that I use alternatively) but I was looking for same type maybe a little bit larger. The size is what attracted me to buy this Pennington Earth Smart, Gray Plastic, Hopper Wild Bird Feeder, 2.5 lb. Capacity. I bought 2. PRO: Large plastic container size PRO: Quality seems to be good PRO: Reasonable price CON BUT I CAN GET USED TO IT: Twisting the top to open/close is not easy. Also, seeds could spill all over, etc. I thought I could simply unhang the feeder and refill while resting on something/table OR since I got 2 feeders, unhang feeder 1 and replace with feeder 2 already filled up – alternating both feeders. MAJOR CON: I observed my first tiny visitors, goldfinch, titmouse, Chickadee… withing minutes after hanging the feeder. I saw them standing sideways, bending over a lot, in an unusual way. This is when I carefully compared my current feeder and my new Pennington feeder. PROBLEM: 1 - The space between the landing rim and the feeding hole is TOO NARROW. Way too small. NOT ENOUGH ROOM for birds to FACE the feeding area. 2 - The opening for seeds to go through is way too SMALL. Seeds mixes often have black oil sunflowers, peanuts, sunflowers heart, safflowers, corn, and millet. I doubt larger feeds will not get stuck (just my honest opinion, since I will not use this feeder and did not witness such issue myself). 3 – I will not use this feeder unless I have no other choice. Not returning. I should have been more careful looking at the pictures.

The tops were well done the squirrels could not open them. These feeders are a great size and price however the openings are too small for larger birds. We get pigeons, doves, Cardinals, Blue Jays, Woodpeckers and of course squirrels. The smaller robins and sparrows eat the seeds that fall to the ground. The squirrels got their seeds anyway. They chewed off the perches and tilted the feeders so the seeds fell into their mouths. I'm going to try and return these and get my money back. Don't like to waste money. Wish the black feeders with the larger holes weren't so expensive. We don't have control over who comes to eat at the feeding station.

This wild bird feeder is easy to fill with bird seed and place outside a window for my viewing pleasure. It is convince to remove the top and fill up to 2.5 lbs of bird seed for the birds in the area. The hanging loop is sturdy and I think it will last a while. I have it attached to a Shepard's hook outside our patio door. It 's great to feed the birds during the winter and watch which types of birds fly in to visit. I would recommend this.

I have this bird feeder hanging from the roof of my balcony. took a week for the birds to trust it that it was safe to come eat. once they did they told all their friends!. great capacity for seeds, holds up well in weather. my cats can vouch for it too!! they enjoy watching all the activities!!

The Lock on the top was bitten right through by squirrels, or birds, which rendered it useless because the top wouldn't stay on anymore. The material that it is made out of is not animal proof at all I already threw away the very first one which was much worse than this.

easy to open and pour right into the large housing for the seed. My Doves are too large to perch however the sparrows, cardinals knock enough out so the Doves feed right under the feeder. It did take a few weeks for them to discover it. Now, Im excited to see what other birds come. I think I need to buy another. Last night there was a tiny rabbit right there with the birds!

Seems like as we walked away from this feeder, the birds were flying towards it. The size is perfect and the birds are able to sit and eat comfortably. The feeder is lightweight, which is always an advantage as it does not cause branches to droop or hang low. The feeder holds a large amount of seed and is able to be easily refilled from the top. With the clear sides, it is easy to see when the refill is needed. The feeder could be hung from a variety of bushes or trees around the home. It is nice to watch the birds from a home window. I love the color of the feeder, as it blends with nature and looks more natural than other feeders. Perfect to help out the birds during the winter months in Michigan

Product fell apart and broke after two days. The loop to hang the feeder came apart. Not constructed well.

DO NOT BUY. Very bad soft plastic material. Birds can chew through the plastic. If you don't have any other choice. PLEASE DO NOT ORDER AT WALMART.COM. They will ship you the damaged product.

I have been looking for this item in different stores and they sell it very expensive. I finally found this one at a very good price and it works perfectly.
