Easy setup: (download the PowerChute autoshutdown software %26 install it, plug in the power cord to a robust Zero Surge power filter, plug in the computer ... connecting power cables), turn the power on switch. Set and forget. Simple operation. Easy peasy. I can't comment on performance because I haven't had a power interruption yet. Battery longevity, ditto.
Best choice for home, campus offices & network equipment.
I have four APC products and have used them for years. This APC Back-UPS 650 will be used to protuce a quilting machine.
This was recommended by family.
Works well. Nice compact size but able to plug everything in that needs protection.

APC has been providing me with backup power since the 1990's. Have tried other brands, but APC has always been the top performer.
I have used APC products for 20 years and find this one like the rest- well made. I have only had it in operation for a week so I can't attest to the long-term aspects. I use this to power and protect the satellite dish power supply and receiver-recorder and protect the TV. The TV is only protected and is not connected to the battery-backed portion. This provides for a longer run time during a power outage to maintain the DVR recording operations which I use very often every day. In previous times I used this same method to keep the VCR up and running (especially not having to reprogram it and its clock!). The power needs for the satellite and and DVR are less than is typically provided by this UPS but the trade off is that this will run longer on batteries. There are times of extended utility power outage where I live so this gives me better uptime. This unit can also be used for PC and home networking for similar protection and uptime. I have recommended APC products for the past 20 years.
I wanted to use this as backup power for essentials in my house if power went out. It appears to be high quality and highly recommended. However, when I plugged it in, a little red light came on immediately that indicated that the wiring in my house was faulty. It was the same for every plug in my house. According to the manual, the only resolution was to call an electrician - no further explanation. I bought a $3 meter at the hardware store that checks plugs, and it indicated that the plugs in my house are not grounded (even though they accept 3 prongs). Long story short, after consulting with someone who knows electrical - it is just that I have an older home. The same would be true in any older home apparently. So, that is why I give this 3 stars. I don't know how good it is, because I can't use it. Check your plugs before you buy this, to make sure they are 100% wired up to code. Otherwise, it is apparently no use to use this backup, as it could harm your appliances when plugged in, and won't really offer surge protection. No problem with the product. No problem if you have an older house. But, they won't work together.
First I got a used item, no where on the site did it say a refurbished or used item. it said NEW>. that is bad enough. then trying to find out how to figure out who sold and shipped it, was a nightmare. I am very upset over Walmart practices. when I go to Walmart site, I want to purchase from WALMART. never thought I would be getting it from a dodgy third party.
