In the nick of time. We had been having big storms for days and the computer would blink off and reboot ... many times. Not good. This arrived the day after we ordered it!
I did not know how to plug in the red cable, so on the first of two battery backups, I am hoping that the first one I assembled then won't spark and cause a fire. The second battery backup, after my learning curve with the first battery backup, then went okay. Therefore although I applied for a return, then I am after all then happy with the battery backups two, and am keeping them.
I plan to cycle it and see how long it can support the load connected to it First impressions very positive quality feel to the product and packaging It's for a home ( residential) application I might give a updated review after I have used it for it's intended purpose
Substituted this much larger capacity 1500 VA unit for a limited capacity 350 VA unit which was tripping off much too quickly during frequent storms, local construction power connection or tree trimming interruptions of my HP desktop PC and T/Mobile wireless internet device. It just so happens Kaufman %26 Post Oak Bend areas experienced a tremendous cold front, winds and heavy rains with multiple lightning strikes on 4/30/25 during my Capital one on-line bank wire session and Fidelity Street Smart Pro trading activities which carried on without interruptions all day. The 2nd 1500VS unit was placed in my family room to protect my 65" smart TV, Onkyo 7.2 channel power amp and Yamaha base subwoofer Yamaha power amp. This new unit replaced my 25 year old APC power supply at this same location as the old unit keeps ticking over the decades via my routine 5 year replacements of the internal batteries which have increased Volt Amp (VA) capacities over the years as battery chemistries have improved over the years and corresponding battery replacements being the same size and terminal configurations.
I live in a mountainous rural area where there are regular episodes of power surging and/or power drops. I build my own computers and the current build includes 6 hard drives with my photography, movies, e-books and documents. I can't afford to lose any of it. Now I have time to shut everything down safely or to easily glide through power surges. Plenty of surge protected and battery back-up outlets.
The weight for mailing and shipping it to our house was exceptional. I am truly impressed that it didn't take any time at all but like four days.
Usually I would recommend APC as it's always performed better than other brands I've tried, but this unit has had some issues. The smell has not dissipated as quickly as other units, and it has turned itself off during a power outage requiring me to remove the load and battery before it would turn back on.
It smell terrible.. Entire office smells now, even before powering it on it gave a foul plastic smell. Not Sulfur or anything, just hot electronics. The battery was disconnected for shipping so there should be no reason for it to my knowledge. Going to replace it with a different device.
We purchased 2 of these units as I've been very satisfied with the product in the past. Within a month the display of one unit went dark and have experienced an F04 fault on the other unit 2x thus far. The quality of these units is horrible, have no idea what has gone wrong at APC.
Fuse went out within 48 hours of being plugged in and would not reset.
