I had been experiencing intermittent Internet in the last few months and was beginning to suspect my 6141 was acting up since my neighbors didn't have the same number of issues that I was experiencing. The Cox cable chat technician told me Modems are only good for about 1 year which I DO NOT agree with but I figured 3 years was right around the time for me to look for an upgrade. Since my old model is still for sale, I decided to go up a model even though I don't subscribe to an ultra-fast internet plan and so far the speedtest indicates that my connection speed has improved *slightly* (14.5 up to 15.85) but I expect the difference with this higher end model is a more consistent speed during the busy neighborhood times. Provisioning was quick and done over chat with the old modem still attached. So far I'm happy. Note that the case for this modem is roughly 30% thicker than the 6141. I'm not sure if this means there's more hardware inside but I hope it solves all of my connectivity issues as well as being reliable enough to last at least 3 years.

Shortly after upgrading my internet plan to allow for 150 Mbps, I noticed the connections on my devices getting slower and slower. Turns out that my old modem was a 4x4...fine for my old plan but not capable of handling the increased speed of my new plan. My ISP told me that I needed a 16x4 modem. I spent some time comparing prices (eBay, Amazon, local retailers). Walmart had the best price, considering I wanted it right away. The ARRIS SURFboard was a cinch to hookup; I only needed to call my ISP to get it activated. I'm now enjoying the increased internet speeds I'm paying for!

I bought this Cable Modem to get out from under Comcasts monthly $10.00 rental fee. It took about 15 minutes to get it hooked up and running, which was a lot easier then I anticipated. I took the time to confirm the existing speed of Comcasts Technicolor modem before changing it out which remained an average 27MB per second which I was used to. After the install of the new Arris SURFboard... WOW!... my speed jumped up to a average of 90MB a second. I am very pleased with the price and operation of my purchase.

Needed a replacement for my other surfboard modem, which randomly decided to give up the ghost after about a year and a half. I was able to get this new one same day from Walmart. It was plug and play and I was able to get internet restored to the house in minutes!

My internet provider bill jumped up once again. After doing a lot of research I finally bit the bullet and replaced my internet provider modem (which also had phone service) with this Arris SB6183. Since I decided to port my number and get rid of the phone service I had, this modem fit the bill as it's only for internet. For those of you looking to replace your modem to avoid the monthly fee they also have a different model Arris built for both internet and phone service. It set up very easily with my iMac. I did not have to contact my internet provider in order to get it up and running. Knowing your mac number is key. I've been meaning to do this since 4 bill increases ago:). It feels so liberating to buy a modem which performs flawlessly and not have to pay 10.00 a month just to use my service. One thing is the lights are quite bright. But that's no reason to rate it less. If you really wanted to, I saw where you can go into the settings and turn them off but that would seem strange to me:) Very happy with my purchase. So far, so good.

works like a charm. saving $10 a month from a previous modem lease. I hooked it up and called TWC and they helped me set it up and its smooth sailing. wish I would have bought this SB6183 a lot sooner

Especially for the price. We have Comcast (Xfinity) and this unit works well and was easy to get set up with the cable company. So glad to not be spending extra money on a leased modem.

I originally bought the SB8200 but it constantly overheated and disconnected. I replaced it with the SB6183 and still get advertised speeds (over 150Mbps) at a lower price and zero errors during its 25-day uptime.

It is not Spectrum compatible even though it says on box
