Exactly what I needed

mtgun September 16, 2014

After reading another review that needed an electric knife to cut their memory foam matress, I bought this knife because the review said it did exactly what was needed. They were right. Can't beat the price, and now that I've used it for what I needed if for, I'm looking forward to using it in the kitchen which is what it was intended for.

Not just for food

YesICanMakeThat June 9, 2013

I bought this electric knife for cutting and shaping foam for some upholstery projects, so haven't used it for edibles. It works great for cutting medium density cushion foam 4 inches thick, and also used it to cut a 3 inch thick, 4 lb density memory foam mattress topper with no trouble at all. Cuts cleanly. For these projects I found it worked best to hold it so the blade is perpendicular to the material being cut, rather than at an angle as you likely would with a regular knife. It's very easy to grip. The blade is actually 2 blades that move opposite each other to get the cutting done, and easy to attach and remove from the handle. It made very quick work of my projects and never hinted of quitting on me. The auto-off safety button that stops the blade when you release the trigger has to be reset every time you stop, which is a big hassle. Another reviewer said he removed it, so I did too, using a pair of pliers to pull it out without trouble; the blade stops anyway when you release your finger pressure from the trigger. Keep this tool away from kids because the blades are very sharp! For crafting, this is a great tool and the price is the lowest around for an electric knife.

Good knife/ terrific value

7373JJ December 30, 2013

The safety stays in while cutting---no need to hold---don't understand the issue some reviewers were having. Got it for the Xmas Prime rib as Alton Brown advised that an electric knife was the way to go---wow, what a joy to cut with. Blade was sorter than advertised 9" but I already knew that before ordering.

Watch Out Lefties

Frankie1429 December 7, 2013

This knife works very well for right handed people. For us lefties, it is very awkward. The safety release button is in the right place for righties who can just hold the trigger with their middle finger and release the safety with their index finger. Lefties on the other hand need a very long thumb or two hands to operate. I tried starting it with my right hand and transferring it to my left and almost came in contact with the moving blades. I ended up finishing the carving with a slicing knife, the old fashioned way. I wrote a letter to Black & Decker and asked if they made an electric knife for lefties and was told that they do not.

For the price can't be beat

NYMouse April 13, 2014

I needed an electric knife to cut into a slab of thick foam. I didn't want to spend a lot as this is for craft work, not carving food. This price can't be beat. Easy to assemble, not heavy, and did the job.

Wish I could use one hand all the time

SATOBSAT May 21, 2016

I actually bought this to cut foam and other materials. The fact that each time you stop cutting you have to use both hand to unlock the safety is quite annoying. Many times I need to hold the material the whole time even though the knife is not running. But as for the it cuts - perfect. Remember if you use it for this purpose DO NOT use it on meat or any other food.

Did what I bought it for

vjlvw July 20, 2014

I needed an inexpensive electric knife to cut a 5 inch thick foam mattress so it would fit in our motorhome. It did the job perfectly. Haven't tried it for anything else yet.

Nice Knife

Scientisturnedmom April 15, 2013

I bought this to replace my electric knife that died after 30 years. I've only used it twice, but it seems to work well. It's a little more bulky than the last one I had, and is a little awkward to handle. For the money, it does the job. Would recommend it.

slices well but...

nish08 December 2, 2013

This slicer is great for slicing, but it is a pain to hold the small button on the side while doing so. My husband carved the turkey and ham using this slicer and it was effortless, aside from that little button.

No longer cuts

bxbx June 17, 2014

Loved this knife at first, great price and easy to use, on mine, the little white safety button stayed depressed so I did not have to push this and the trigger at the same time. I used it only to cut home made bread. 2 months later and it will no longer cut anything, I do not know why.
