Black Max 21-inch Gas Push Mower, 125cc Briggs & Stratton Engine

I got this to replace an old push mower that we used to mow around trees and areas our rider can't get easily. Out of the box only had to fold out and secure the handle. Only used the primer the first time I started it and it took more than 3 pumps, not surprised on that. Usually starts on the second pull now, no priming. I use the side discharge which can clog in thicker grass and get knocked off in tight spots like under bushes. Really works great.

My other Black Max had all the bells and whistles, but that one isn't available anymore and the closest was hugely expensive. So I bought the one that was on sale and hoped for the best, although I feared it would struggle in my high grass. It was delivered, and I put it together quite easily. Gassed it up and it started on the second crank. Since I had been without a mower in Florida for a couple of weeks, my yard was pretty wild, but this cut it like butter. It mulched even that tall grass, which was impressive. Funny thing, the lightness of not have those bells and whistles makes it a breeze to mow with. Light and no struggle to push. I am sorry I have been pushing that heavy beast that I thought was far superior to these lower priced, rather mundane mowers. I'll never go back to one of those pricey beasts again!

I love this little guy. It's powerful and lightweight so I'm not worn out when I'm done. I love the safety handle that allows the engine to be cut off immediately. I'm also a big fan of the easy-pull recoil; starts first pull every time. This was a thrifty purchase and a great value for the price.

This mower is the hardest working lawnmower I have ever owned. Our other one lasted for years. Keep in mind that we mow 2 acres of land so it really gets a workout. We recently replaced it with the same mower. Then we purchased 2 more. It is that great. It's light and easy for this 73 to push. My husband is also sold on the mower. If you want a great mower that is easy to push and cuts well, this is the only one IMHO. Always check the air filter and the oil - and you need to clean it underneath, particularly if the grass is wet. When you clean the mower, this is what I do. I lean the handle down onto the ground and put a weight [rock, board, etc.] to hold it down. Just the handle ONLY should be weighted, without the starting wand/rod/bar. Clean underneath and you're done.

Initial review after 6 uses: So far, this mower has been great, especially considering it was on sale for $150! It cranks easily, runs strong even with high grass. So far, I have not experienced the hieght adjustment issues noted in some other reviews. Will update later if experience reliability issues but so far, this has been a great mower.

Great Little Mower!! Lightweight, mulches well and starts easy! Looks a bit different than the pictures, no red trim on the motor but does have a nice oil dipstick. I wish I would've bought two at that $148 price! A

I like the Black Max mowers, have one I use at home and one at the lake, very light with I high handle which is easier for a tall person to push and is easy to start. Very good for the price.

Do not buy this very cheap mower. The lever to raise the mower will not stay where I set it. My grass was tall so I wanted the mower to be lifted higher. The lever would drop and have to be reset every few seconds.

Walmart sent me a returned lawn mower as new, which is totally illegal and wouldn't send me a replacement for the sale price that I ordered 4 days ago, leaking gas all over and won't start after it gets hot. Thanks Walmart and Black Max. They did give me a refund and I get to keep the broken, returned mower but I don't get one that runs today.

Arrived fast. Wasn't a big fan of some of the parts are plastic. I have cut with it 3 time and it seems to be a good mower for the price. I caught it on sale for $149.00 plus tax. It is just I needed for my trim work. Its light no bagger or self-propelled just a simple mower that starts %26 cuts verry well.
