Customer Insights: Rated 4.34/5 from 44 reviews.
I previously owned the highly recommended Brother 1034. Was most pleased with it. When my right needle broke I bent some arm and could never get it adjusted back correctly. I purchased this heavy duty Brother because it was on sale for just a few dollars more than the 1034. As the reviews state, it is louder than the 1034 but I'm ok with it. I like that it glides over thicker fabrics with ease. Threading it was not a real learning curve. A curved set of tweezers and watching You Tube is a must on threading a serger. It's scary the first couple of times but you get faster with practice. I will ALWAYS own a serger. Love how quickly and professionally you can put a project together with one.
This is my first serger so I don't have anything to compare to. It is, however, relatively easy to thread (after a few screw ups I'm now chugging along). I appreciate the steel frame and that it is meant to take some abuse. I'm using it for several hours a day and it's so easy to use.
I bought this machine on the advice of a Facebook user. I have a Babylock Victory that I hate. Hate is not a strong enough word. While it does feature airthreading, that's not a big deal for me. I am 69 years young, and as long as I can find my reading glasses I can thread my machines. Now the needle itself is a challenge, but still doable. Anyway, the Babylock tension can only be adjusted by changing the stitch, stitch length and cutting blade width. I had learned to check my stitch (no matter how beautiful it appeared), by separating and gently tugging the fabric seam apart. The more you can view the stitches, the more you need to correct the tension. At last, I can do that with the HEAVY DUTY Brother. I can also trim through my quilt layers to give me a clean edge to bind to. I purchased this machine on line, confident that it was a good purchase based one my previous purchase of a Brother PE 800 Embroidery machine. Somehow you have made that pretty much idiot proof, but I'm trying. I wish you could put that kind of technology into your printers. I am less then thrilled with the one my husband purchased for me as a gift. Anyway, that is another story. Thank you!
Hi I researched many ,before I bought and keep coming back to this one it's got everything I need . Easy to thread and use very happy with it. Great price too.
After 9 years, my faithful Brother 1034D began to show its age. It would be $100+ to have it serviced and a new one is $200. So, for a few more bucks more than a new machine, I purchased the Brother ST4031HD. The dials are on the right making adjustments very easy. The extension table, while small, is better than nothing. (I make pillowcases so drag is an issue.) Changing needles is much easier also with separate set screws. Brother took a great product and made it even better.
At first I wasn't sure how to thread it, but I watched YouTube and found out it was simple Have really enjoyed sergering!!!
I've been sewing on this serger for several months now. Have used it to make masks, curtains, and handkerchiefs. No matter the type of fabric or the number of fabric layers, it has consistently performed well. Just love working with my serger!
Have many years using various machines. Juki, Singer etc. I operate this machine hours everyday serging heavy material. I'm amazed at the speed and quality this machine provides. Highly recommend.
The stitching looks good but the machine goes too fast and hard to control the fabric. It is also difficult to to begin stitching with out jerking. I will be returning this machine next week on the day I leave my home for necessities.
Disappointed and Frustrated! The Blue lever is supposed to work on a new machine in order to thread the lower looper. Well it didn't! I've sewed with brother machines for years and still hoping they machine a better serger!
