A pain to install, but worth the effort

Smiley1970 December 16, 2025

This scanner might not feel substantial, but if it's like it's predecessor will last a long time. I had a Lide110 that has worked beautifully for almost 12 years but while transporting it to my parents house, I dropped it. I was shocked that it still works, but it's obviously wounded and probably won't for much longer so I was so grateful that I could find this one which for all intense and purposes is about the same and still quite reasonably priced. It's very portable and is even faster than the 110 which I always thought was very fast. The only thing I don't like about it as far as it's design goes is that the buttons in the front are not recessed, making them easy to accidentally push when trying to scan something in another program. I cannot speak to the resolution quality of the scans because I am visually impaired and the only thing I use mine for is to read printed materials with character recognition software. As for that, it works beautifully. I never had problems installing its predecessor on previous versions of Windows but with Windows 11, it took me three tries to finally get it to work as expected. I ended up having to download the updated files for it and save them to my hard drive before running the install as opposed to launching that process after inserting the CD. It was worth the effort though, because the scanner is quick and quiet, and I couldn't ask for more. Here's hoping it lasts as long as the 110 which would still be going strong if I hadn't been clumsy.

I love that you just have to plug it into your laptop and download the software and it was ready to use. It only scans one page at a time but that is all I needed for our small business. I just attach the scanned pages to an email to be able to send several pages at once. Love the simplicity of this Canon scanner.

Best Scanner For Macs

Gareton August 11, 2025

For the price, you can't beat it. Plugged into my MacBook Pro, started Image Capture and I was scanning at the highest resolutions, without downloading any software from Canon.

Easy to use. love the 600 dpi setting. the only issue I have is the buttons on the product. I have the settings set up to do exactly what the computer program does but when I press the button, it doesn't do the same as the computer.

Easy 4 docs to pdf or print, lousy for pictures

Alisia April 9, 2026

It works good for document but it only scans to pdf and does not make it an image. It is fast and easy but there is no options to change anything. If you want to scan all to adobe pdf than this is your scanner! Fast one button and it's done in seconds! It is super fast direct scan to copy also in one minute it's done! It's all automatic and wonderful except I wanted to scan pictures to my computer and that only does it in pdf and the limit is 900kb and that's grainy and not a picture at all it looks like a an old Atari upgrade picture. Don't buy this for photos but only for documents and you're good to go!

Latest Situation

jasuher July 21, 2025

I recently purchased a second CanoScan LIDE 300, thinking that the first one was bad. Much to my surprise I found out that both scanners do not interface with Apple Sequoia 15.5 and that a new "patch fix" needed to be made by Canon. They also could not tell me when that would happen?? The only saving factor was that when I connected the scanner to my older Mac Cylinder, it worked fine, so I at least have somer scanner capabilities until the next software upgrade.
