This product was easy to put together. My cat loves it. He uses this scratcher exclusively.
Our cats LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this scratching post! They have already almost totally destroyed the straw wound around the post. I have one in our LR, den and master BR. The balls on the spring and rope are also fun play toys for them. Will definitely reorder as they are playfully destroyed.
For the cats, this scratcher is good. They do like it and use it. For the owner of the cats, it is another item that requires you to maintain, as the rope becomes detached and messy from the cat's scratching it. You need to vacuumed or broom the area all the time. Under the rope is cardboard, so it breaks easily. I wish it lasted longer.
My cats love it, but shred through the rope way too fast causing it to fall apart quickly. My cats lose interest when that happens and go back to tearing up the furniture. I've gone to buying the cardboard scratchers, they last over a month, which is more than twice as long as this scratcher lasted with my two kitties. Waste of money.
I had to laugh when, in the product description, it says "durable." That's the farthest thing from reality. I got this scratch post, set it up and my cat went at it. Within 3 days the sisal rope was pulled off. I tried to Crazy Glue it back on, then staple-gun it back on and, finally, hot glue-gun it back on. The glue-gun worked. But I shouldn't have even had to do that. I'm sure there are a lot of other sisal scratch posts that are better-made than this one is.
I've had several of these by this brand from Walmart over the years and they rarely last beyond 30 days. Quality is very cheap and shoddy. However, there was a Smarty Kat brand in which my cat had 2 which lasted OVER A YEAR EACH! Unfortunately the Smarty Kat brand is much to harder to find anymore in stores or online. Smarty Kat is a better and sturdier brand than this garbage!
bought this for my two cats 1 yr and 7 yrs old, didnt even hold up one day. You have to assemble it yourself. The screw on the bottom goes through the cloth where it folds doesnt stay tightened. After having to tighten constantly the cloth ripped now it doesnt stay standing upright anymore. So i just use the platform with the fuzzy ball on the spring but my 1 yr old tore it off the first night. Sooo the only good things out of this are the three fuzzy balls that come with it. I would have rather spent $20 more and gotten something similar from petsmart.
There were no holes in the product to insert the parts.I had to force a hole in for the scratcher tube, which had the nut to tighten it with on the reverse side. The spring toy with the ball attached had nothing.I tried to secure it on the bottom with tape, but once the cats played with it,it fell out.I ended up throwing this part out.I will never buy this product again.
Recently (2 days ago) bought this for my 3 month old kitten. He was playing with the ball on the stretchy string and somehow the string wrapped tightly around his paw and he was crying and stuck. Thankfully I was there and not working when this happened. That could've wrapped around his neck while I was at work and I could've found him dead when I got home....or his foot might've been amputated from hanging there for hours and struggling with it tightly wrapped around his foot. After I freed his paw I cut the cord from the sea grass pole then cut the ball off of that so he can play with the ball...the cord I threw away. Not happy....hope no one else has a horror story from this.
Don't buy! My cat loved scratching it but the rope broke and fell apart in less than two weeks. There arent holes punched in the carpet to screw in the toys. You had to feel around to find them. The pom pom on top came off in a day. Definitely not worth the money
