This is the most iconic tomato paste out there! All it takes is one glance and I know exactly what kind of quality taste I'm getting. The packaging is bright, the ingredients are simple, and the uses are endless! Super silky and perfect for sauces, casseroles, or any recipe!
My Mom always used Contadina tomato paste when making tomato sauce for spaghetti or lasagna or sloppy joes or other tomato based soups and casseroles. She taught me how to add seasonings and how to add broths or water to get the right consistency for what you're making. She loved Contadina paste because it allows you to control the flavors as it is just concentrated tomatoes. It is rich and thick and then you can add whatever seasonings you want and you can control the consistency by adding broth or stock or water etc. Other sauces are already thinner and many have added seasonings. Contadina does not, so you can add whatever you want. Just adding two tablespoons can be the difference in a deeper depth of flavor! When I make sloppy joes I use 1-2 pounds ground chuck (80/20) depending on how many servings you want. Brown the meat with a diced onion, salt %26 pepper, I also add some diced green bell pepper or diced poblano, then add 1 small 6 ounce can of Contadina, stir into meat and slowly add either hot water or beef broth until it reaches a good consistency, thick and not too thin. Then add the seasonings you like. I always use chili pepper, it gives a nice spiciness without too much heat. If you want to spice it up, add a diced jalapeno or Fresno chili or whatever your favorite ones are. Add some sugar to mellow out the richness of the paste and to complement the spice. Play around with different spices, or use a pkg of fajita seasoning or chili seasoning if you want. I have found that by using spices and trying different ones you will find the ones you and your family enjoy! I never use a sloppy Joe canned mix since I make my own using the flavors I enjoy.
I remember my mom using Contadina tomato paste so it has been a staple in my family for ALL of my life and then some and I'm in my 70's! I will always rely on it for my sauces.
Just like the Contadina sauce this is a must have in your spaghetti sauce. Don't compromise with other brands. You will really taste a difference when using Contadina.
I once axed Don Corleone (my Godfather) if there was another brand of paste I should consider, and he said "forgetaboutit".., and gave me that mean scary look he could sometimes do. I think he wants me to buy Contadina.
What a struggle it was to open this can of tomato paste! We tried our electric can opener, and then a manual can opener. It shouldn't be that difficult. This is the only product with which I have had an issue. I had to enlist the help of my husband & even he had considerable difficulty. The rim is just too narrow.
used to be SO MUCH BETTER. now its just missing a tone of flavour and I need to add flavor due to the over processing to stretch out what they have to produce more . sadly they miss the mark
The can was bashed all the way around. What sucks is delivery orders are not given a receipt for returns. Can I exchange for a NOT BASHED CAN?? I PURCHASED FOR MY COOKING FOR UPCOMING THANKSGIVING!! It is not a stew, juice or jar it is a can of tomato paste that I need that I would like to exchange!!!! My rating would be MUCH BETTER HAD THE CAN NOT BEEN BASHED
The person who shopped my order didn't look at the cans of tomato paste. The items were mixed up on the shelf and I didn't receive plain tomato paste, I received flavored tomato paste which I don't use. They wouldn't take an exchange since it was a delivery, so I had to drive into the store for these items. I'm not doing delivery for the time being this isn't the first time something like this has happened.
My order was delivered crumpled, exchange or refund
