Very quiet. We use it in our office on automatic. It occasionally turns the speed up on its own when the air quality changes, which is awesome because we know it is helping us breath clean air. I researched a lot of models and am very happy to have selected this one. Highly recommend it.
Noisy but effective. Cabin life is great especially a roaring fireplace but even a well sealed firebox can create a lot of airborne particulates. Micro particles of wood ash wafting around meant dusting was a frequent chore. This thing really works. It quietly cycles on and off under normal conditions but goes into overdrive within seconds when the firebox is opened to clean out the ash. Sensing the particles from 15ft away. It does get pretty loud then drowning out normal conversation for 20-30 seconds. But when there's no wood ash or dust it stays quiet. After 4 months of use I can say its worth the purchase and our lungs are very appreciative.
I vaporise an herb that tends to smell funny. As soon as the small, wisp of vapor leaves my lips the Airmega (in auto mode) kicks on the red light and works for the next 10 minutes clearing the room. I once had mild flatulence and Airmega didn't judge; it just did what it was made to do; create perfectly clean air.
I bought this to keep the air clean during California wildfire season. It does the job handily in my room, which is about 300 sq ft. (and also very dusty because it is an old house and my room is a converted porch.) Each of my roommates also has one of these air purifiers, so we are all now fans (no pun intended). The setup directions were clear and the setup itself was not challenging. It is extremely easy to see how to operate the device and to understand what it is telling you about air quality.
This is an excellent air cleaner for a bedroom. We sleep so much better since we added this to our bedroom.
For the first week the unit off gassed a chemically smell that was unpleasant (and seemed counterproductive!). Since that has dissipated, the unit seems fine. It runs quietly, perfect for the bedroom.
It has helped my husband sleep better as he suffers from year round allergies. If there is a way to shut off the light, I haven't found it. It produces a distracting amount of light at night. We have to put a thick piece of cardboard over the top to block it at night.
The fan is smooth and the air seems cleaner in my room, however the light indicator in one of the two units I bought doesn't work, so it's unclear what level of air quality it is achieving.
Just got the product today, and as soon as I turned it on I could smell nail polish (or paint thinner). I thought it's new product smell, and would go away. So I let it run. 2 hours later when I came back the air in the room was unbreathable. Had to open all the windows (outdoor smoke was more tolerable than paint thinner smell). I checked the entire unit. The pre-filter smells like it was soaked in paint-thinner. I left it outside so maybe it would lose the smell. No luck. For a product that is supposed to "purify" the air, this is pretty terrible failure.
unpacked and installed the filter, which appear high quality, and turned it on. filled the room with a headache inducing smell of plastic. ran for 20 hrs thinking it might go away. never did. returning this morning. very disappointing. going back to my winix 5500.
