This game is awesome! Blizzard updated the game so now multiplayer is refined and quality of life in the game is greatly improved.

Requires paid subscription to play

shelby August 23, 2023

I did not realize this requires a PlayStation subscription to play even the story line. I would not have purchased for $70 just to have to pay 10 a month to play. I'm not a big gamer like that.

A rather average hack/slash w online requirement

JWS9518 October 19, 2024

I initially thought I bought the wrong game when D4 Vessel of hatred popped up on my screen nearly as soon as loaded the game, but then I realized that the game makers were trying to sell me an overpriced expansion for a game that I had not even tried yet. I am not a fan of games that force you to log in/create an account just to play their game, nor am I a fan of a game that tries hard to get you to buy a lot of cosmetics and unnecessary items as you play. Unfortunately, Blizzard is guilty of that here with D4, with a substantial portion of the menu taken up with trying to get you to buy things. Yet, the menus for the gameplay are rather small and hard to read for a middle-aged gamer like me. I am also primarily a solo player and although the game allows you a solo campaign, the game wants you to play its multi-player/co-op by also trying to get you to pay extra for that as well. Like D3, the game view isa 3d above the action (top down) isometric view. Graphically the game is good, with excellent details in the dungeons and various areas. The areas smoothly scroll along with no graphic hiccups or delays, but the game suffers from some of the same issues that I saw in D3, such as the camera views at times makes it difficult to see what is going on in a particular area, which is especially frustrating when you are in the middle of a fight. You would think this would be improved in the years since D3, but I guess not. The game world is a bit larger though and less of a limited linear world like D3 was. This game is what I would call a typical hack and slash dungeon adventure, and other than the name, the game does little to stand out from a crowded genre. If you are not familiar with the series, the game does very little to provide an intro into anything before you dive into the main game. The menus could be more user friendly and more readable, especially the gameplay menus. As I have previously mentioned, less trying to sell you things and more making the game more easily accessible and playable. The fighting is a relatively simple slash and hack with your weapon and dodge away from the waves of enemies. As far as I can tell in my first few hours of gameplay, there doesn't seem to be much strategy to beating the monsters other than button mashing and gathering better equipment. The story is ok and seems to be better than D3, but seems a bit generic. The voice acting could be better as well. The game is fun in small bursts, but quickly gets repetitive. This is better than D3, but only slightly with better graphics. If you are a fan of the series, then you might like this more than me, but I find this a rather average hack and slack that really doesn't do much to stand out from a crowded field and the online requirement, combined with the push for microtransactions makes me want to rate it even lower.

No offline mode

Justin April 20, 2024

Good thing I read the fine print on the back before peeling off the shrink wrap. Back to the store it goes, and this is probably the last time I give a Blizzard game a chance. “No offline mode” is something that really should be called out on the front of the case so I don't waste my time. My internet is unreliable, so I'm supposed to hook up to my phone's hotspot to play? And as soon as they decide to cut the servers off the disc becomes useless? Ridiculous.
