I live in the country. It is very easy for me too dispose of my kitty litter in a wooded area on our acre farm. However, the clumping litter had to go in the trash for the trash man and went in the landfill. Dr. Paul's wood pellets disintegrate and become a powder that I can just dump in the woods without any worry of harm to the environment or animals. The only thing that is probably inconvenient is the fact that you cannot remove the poop very easily. It can't be clean with a scooper, you have to basically have gloves or plastic bag and pick the poop out.. Since our cats go in and out, they sell them use it for that they just use it to pee in. It works great for me.
This is actually the best cat litter they make. I tried others but they either track bugs, dust, or track all through the house. Take it from me who has learned. The pine smell is beautiful and hides pee and poop very well. I dont have to hold my nose any more. This is such a game changer for me and wish I did it sooner. Thanks dr pol.
Dr. Pol's cedar cat litter is the best of all the pellet brands I've tried and I've tried quite a few. I foster kittens for the local animal services and this is the kind of litter they use. They say it is much healthier in that it does not have all the chemicals found in other types of litter. Also kittens sometimes eat the litter and obviously a pellet that dissolves into sawdust is preferable to one that clumps in the digestive tract. I found that despite all the research that goes into making cat litter deodorizing the cedar pellets work so much better. Up until a few years ago when I started fostering I swear I had tried every brand of litter because I have 2 cats. In my opinion none of them worked very well and they cost so much. I finally found one that I felt did a good job in keeping odors under control. It was called Scoop Away and you can probably find my review of it here somewhere. The only place I could find it was Walmart. Even then, it often had to be shipped. I'd still recommend it if you are not going to go the natural pellet route. But I'd seriously encourage you to give this a try. I don't think you will regret it. CONS: I added Dr. Pol's to my subscription list and for a year or more everything was fine. Recently it has been out of stock every month leaving me to need to scramble to get a different brand delivered to my house and my son's house . I promised him I would take care of everyday essentials if he took care of the vet for his cat until he gets out of college. I finally gave up and cancelled his subscription last month to Dr. Pol's and added Feline Pine which is much more expensive than Dr. Pol's 40 lb bag and not as good quality. I didn't cancel my subscription but did not expect it to ship so I already had 2 bags of the other brand. Imagine my surprise, and my delight, when Dr. Pol's was sitting in my porch one day. The subscription filled it. Now I have to go back and add it to my son's list. Fingers crossed whatever caused the shortage had been worked out and we can get Dr. Pol's regularly again. It doesn't look like the 40 lb is available anymore but it came in a 25 lb bag.
In general I have appreciated pine cat litter for its odor controlling abilities and the fact that it isn't dusty. Compared to the other brand (still sold at Walmart) this litter worked much better at controlling odor and cost less per unit weight. I have had zero complaints about this pine pellet cat litter, and I'm sad that Walmart has decided to quit selling it. Truly. It seems like they kept the worst brand, which is a bummer.
I got my adult cat from a friend of a friend, so I knew that she was accustomed to pine pellet cat litter. Kitty gets what Kitty wants. Something about pine cat litter neutralizes the odor of cat urine. I scoop solids daily %26 dump her box weekly. I don't smell cat urine. People who come over don't smell cat urine. People who don't have or even like cats don't smell cat urine. The cost of using Dr Pols Pine Pellets is LESS than the cost of any clumping cat litter that I have ever used. I have a couple of old Tidy Cat litter buckets that I use to store my Dr Pols pine litter. 2 x 20lbs of litter in a bucket is easier to use than 1 x 40lbs of litter in a bag.
I have been using pellet litter for over 8 years. I've tried different brands before. Dr Pols pellet litter is a game changer!! When your cat peas the pellets become a sawdust consistency making scooping a breeze! I live in a one bedroom apartment and no one can tell I have a cat unless they see him. The litter does not have an overpowering smell or heavy scent. This is well worth the money. The best part…..it's delivered right to your door!!!
This is my choice of cat litter, by far, however, I do caution people that it may not be suitable for older or ill cats since the litter is made of hard pellets. My cat got used to it after a few days and I highly recommend it since it is all natural and also does a great job of odor absorption. I do recommend that you use a sifting litter box with this litter and I think you will be very pleased with how easy it is to maintain.
I really like this litter. It goes a long way and with my cat it does not scatter all over the floor like the other fine litter. When he pees, it turns to dust and he goes in the same spot. I scoop it out with a spatula and put in in a bag then add more litter. I do wish it had a better smell. Not wild about the pine scent.
Twice this has arrived and the bag has a cut in it somewhere causing the product to spill out in the shipping box. Disappointed to see this lack of care as it results in less product that I have already paid for
Too soft. Cat urine breaks down some pellets into sawdust which clogs up the tray. I wanted to like it because of the great price, but unfortunately didn't work out for my needs.
