I used this product (Rust Encapsulater Plus) on the transmission and engine well portion of the frame on my 1966 C10. Grinder wire brushed and cleaned before painting. Can't comment on longevity but paint seems to adhere well, also aesthetically exceptional, i.e. I brushed it on but no brush marks after drying. Used in 65 degree weather, 60% humidity.
Does not contain isocyanates like the Rust Encapsulator Plus and Platinum, and to me as a hobbyist that's far more important than the number of hours of corrosion protection it provides. The Plus made me very sick for several days after using it with a fresh OV respirator. I would choose this over the Plus or Platinum regardless of cost unless I had a supplied air system and was working on an "heirloom quality" vehicle.
Very pleased with this product easy to use and easy to apply looks great!
Use to buy black in spray can on sale and they supposed to has shelf life of a year and I didn't use them for 6 months and they hadn't been open or used and shook twice as long but I've got around 5 or 6 cans that I barely got a little out and it was like tar trying to get out, hadn't had that problem with red and they said if I had told or used in 3 months they would make it up so I've stopped getting as much stuff from Eastwood but I was wanting this in quart so I'll be able to use
I purchased this to deal with the rust on a vintage carnival ride that I am restoring. Applying it was a much simpler process than most of the competing products on the market and no need for a topcoat is a bonus. Hopefully its long term performance is as good as its ease of application!
The package arrived and the can opened up in the box, wasn't sure what to do and Eastwood got right back to me and said they were sending a replacement!
This product has No shelf life whatsoever! I have tried to keep some in stock for my projects, but more often than not it will not spray properly and just sputters and spits. It is a fantastic product, but I recommend ordering about a week before you are ready to use it.
Great product. Sprays very well through the gun. I have had issue with the rattle cans not spraying consistently but dries flat and and even. Seems very UV resistant as stuff that was painted 2-3 years ago isn't much lighter and flatter than freshly painted. Seems to do a good job holding back rust.
Applied on boat trailer axels. Knocked rust off, power washed. Applied the eastwood primer, Applied platinum plus. Let it dry for 2 days. 1 week later, rust is bleeding thru. Doesn't work as advertised.
This has happened twice now. In the middle of spraying a rusted trailer the spray can stopped spraying. It seemed to have clogged some how. They were both new cans. The first time it happened, during that night it started spraying on it's own and emptied the can all over my work bench and garage floor. The second can just stopped and hasn't "exploded" yet. Two full cans waisted.
