This is an excellent piece of kitchen equipment. You can lift out a large amount of food at once from boiling water or hot oil. The handle is long enough to keep your hand away from the hot liquid. My only complaint is that I did not have one of these sooner! I highly recommend this to anyone who cooks.

My husband loves homemade french fries, but we don't have a fryer, so, I used to cut the potatoes and, throw them into a pot-full of oil. When it came time to remove them, I didn't really have many options; I could either use a fork and play 'poke the french fry' two dozen times for each batch that I made, or I could plunge my hand into the scalding oil and let my husband know that his fries were ready by my screams of agony instead of the dinner bell. This is a much better option. The grid space in the basket is plenty that the oil can fall through, but doesn't allow reasonably sized foods (french fries, onion rings...) to fall through. The plastic handle doesn't absorb the oil, and the strainer is durable and well-built. - Brian
