could be sharper blades, wouldn't cut through the bush branches I was trying to cut. maybe I'm not strong enough.

Terrible! These won't cut nothing but tiny twigs and that's only if you do a quick fast snip. Most of the shrubbery just bent without cutting, then it was hard to re-open the shears without a lot of effort because the shrubbery was stuck in between the blades. A waste of money and effort!
