Have a few pairs of kitchen shears that have dulled over time. Tried using knife and other sharpeners but didn't have much luck. This Fiskars sharpener did the trick. While it says it's not for serrated/pinking blades, my kitchen scissors do have ridges on one blade but this still sharpened them. And per the instructions, all it took was 4 passes. Easy to use and the sharpener is fairly compact/fits in a standard kitchen drawer. Definitely recommend.
There is nothing like going to cut something and the scissors are barely working. It is no fun having to work hard for a simple cut. Usually the reason the scissors are not working is because the blades are dull. And how are you supposed to sharpen them? For me, in the past, that meant, I just had to work with an inferior tool. It never occurred to me that there was another tool that I could use to sharpen the blades on scissors. So, I was surprised when I was able to review Fiskars Desktop Universal Scissors Sharpener. The instructions say that four strokes typically work to restore the blades to like new sharpness. It is so easy to use. It is lightweight and takes up little space. The sharpening is very smooth and takes no time. This sharpener can be used with any straight edged scissors. I sharpened all of the scissors in my house and they really are as good as new.
I'm left-handed and it's almost impossible to find a left-handed scissor sharpener. This one will sharpen left and right handed scissors. It leaves them extremely sharp buy it. You'll be happy.
Thank goodness Fiskars makes this little item.! Yes, dragging your scissors across the inner bars of this item actually sharpens them. It only takes 3 or 4 pulls with a quality pair of scissors to get a good edge. Your scissors will thank you. And you will thank Fiskars.
It’s really frustrating to have dull scissors; this sharpener works well to keep them sharp. It’s not much good if they are really dull. You can use it left or right-handed just turn it around the way you need it. You just insert the blades into the slots, lightly scissor cut as you pull them out. Do it 4 or 5 times, wipe the dust off of the scissor blades and you are good to go. It's lightweight and small so easy to use and easy to store. I have 2 now. Must have in the sewing room and the kitchen.
Love how easy this is to use. Just open the scissors, put them all the way in so the back of scissors blades are on the sharpener blades, and then slide them out while closing down on the sharpening blades. Repeat a few times and they get a sharper edge. Its light-duty, removing a small amount of metal, but certainly helps. I sharpened my kitchen scissors that I cut everything with, so they are dull and are not typically sharp enough to cut hanging threads off fabric. After sharpening, I could trim all the end threads off muslin fabric that they struggled with before sharpening. Has a lifetime warranty from defects. It’s not going to do what a professional sharpening or pumice stone can do, but it does improve the sharpness and is so convenient!
This is a very simple, easy-to-use scissor sharpener. In your hand, it's quite unimpressive...very lightweight plastic. But it works much better than my current sharpener. The process of sharpening is the same, but there's something about this that makes it smoother and easier. I like it! If you've never sharpened your scissors before, you're missing out! I use and abuse scissors every day. I use them a surprising amount in the kitchen. Yes...just regular ol' scissors...not even the cooking/chef special kind. This sharpener will now be my go-to for sharpening!
The blade works great for sharpening scissors. I was highly impressed by the sharpness. The quality of the plastic is decent and will hold up over time and use. The only flaw I would say is they sharpeners are pretty hollow and need some weight in the base.
The results of using this dedicated scissors Sharpener are hit and miss. I used it on 5 pairs and got very good results on two of them. The other 3 were not much better than before I "Sharpened" them. For the cost, you might want to try it, but don't say I didn't warn you if it doesn't live up to its name.
I have to say I am surprised that a Fiskars brand product was not more what I would have expected. It's hard to tell what it is that the scissor blades are running across in the slots. It seemed like some sort of foam, possibly like the magic eraser material. It did not look permanent but more like something that would wear down in time. The sharpener itself is rather flimsy, making it hard to grasp firmly. The bottom is open, so no surface that might make the sharpener more steady. I'd say it also would do well to have some little rubber feet or an entire rubber bottom to keep it in one place on the desk while pulling the scissors through the slots. It might do some sharpening but I didn't notice any big difference with my scissors.
