This is my second 28" axe. perfect for splitting soft wood (pine, larch). The first axe handle is breaking on the end. used every day for 5 years.
used it today and it chops wood great but, Walmart packaged it in a bag and shipped it that way and it fell out of the case and damaged the head of it, it's hard to believe that there's people working out there that would put an axe in a bag and ship it
It's amazing how good this little lightweight axe is.
Best axe I have ever used.
Great addition for any tool collection. Well built for a great price.
When I saw these in a store, I thought 'oh yeah, somebody's new axe design', and went back to my old school American splitting maul. Then I saw a friend using one of these 'new axes' and got the chance to try it myself: Wow, what a difference! I decided right away to get one and now I'm a happy splitter! The design is perfect; Broad, flat surfaces at the perfect V angle; the widest point is in front of the handle attachment so there's weight behind it for inertia, but no additional friction in the split. Whomp! and it goes right through. Even has a non stick surface to further decrease friction and drag. Should have bought one years ago!!
It's better than expected. It has good weight and is easy to swing. The edge holds up. The two things that have plagued every axe I have ever owned has been solved, the head does not come loose and the handle doesn't break if you miss. I can't imagine any axe being better.
Phenomenal job developing this. I have split oak, pecan, pine, silver maple, sweet gum, hickory, Bradford pear, American elm, and hackberry. I've gone through 20 ricks or so and it's like new. I would've gone through 5 axe repairs and a couple bipolar episodes with any other that I have used in the past.
This is a fabulous item but finding a Walmart store that has a supply, and will actually take the time to find it in their inventory, is difficult at best. You will notice you CANNOT purchase this online for ship-to-store. Stores that I have dealt with lately have put this item in storage until spring. Why? I haven't a clue. If a person wants to split firewood this would be the time to do it. Excellent product but hard to find due to very poor inventory management.
Our older Fiskars X25 splitting axe handle broke at the axe head after it hit a knot on a cedar round. There is a lifetime warranty but the company takes too long for a replacement. It's winter and the cabin has a wood stove only for heating. Thankfully Walmart after purchase delivered a new one in 2 days. Eventually there will be a backup delivered.
