I am struggling with my diabetes. I am suffering from type one and type two hyper and hypoglycemia. It is caused by medication and being chronically ill. I am struggling so hard to keep my sugar levels in a good place and the Glucerna has been the best product for this. I finally have a good way of mixing the hunger, smart powder and a non-soy based dairy free milk and water where I actually enjoy my shakes that I make I just wish it wasn't so expensive and that it wasn't so hard to find the product without having to buy a whole month worth all at one time. The Glucerna chocolate and vanilla powder is 75% of my consumption currently. Being that I am chronically ill and diabetes is not my only issue. I also have severe Crohn's disease just makes it much easier to get protein in as they want me having between 100-150 grams a day.
My husband wanted to try something different but similar to what he was drinking how's the trucker it's not easy to stop and get something to eat so if you've got it in the truck and you can make it yourself that's the best thing and this is good for him
I switched to the powder version of Glucerna primarily to save money and cut down on sodium, and I am so glad I did. Here is how the breakdown looks: Value: The powder gives you 19 servings for about $22, whereas the bottled shakes run around $13 for a 6-pack. Sodium: A huge plus for me is the sodium reduction. The bottled shakes have around 300mg of sodium, while a serving of the powder only has about 115mg. I was honestly a bit worried that the powder wouldn't taste as good as the pre-made bottles, but it tastes exactly the same! It isn't quite as thick as the liquid version, but it is still very tasty. A few quick tips for mixing: Use a mixer: I highly recommend using a blender, milk frother, or a shaker cup to get it smooth. The scoop size: The nutritional info list a serving as 33g. When I weighed it out on a scale, 33g turned out to be a tightly packed scoop. Preparation: Just mix 1 scoop with 8 oz of cold water, blend it up, and enjoy. Granted, it isn't quite as fast as just grabbing a bottle out of the fridge. But for me, spending a couple of extra minutes of prep time is well worth the cost savings and the health benefits! Highly recommend.
I am a diabetic and do not always eat right. As we age we need to keep up with our protein intake. I am over 60 and want to keep up with my strength, I purchased this to assist. I have to noticed any difference as of yet. I do like that it has lower sugar than other protein related shakes.
I don't like to eat first thing in the morning, but as a diabetic I usually need something light to start my day. Glucerna Hunger Smart chocolate has a smooth texture (unlike some gritty protein powders) and not only tastes good, but it mixes well in a shaker cup with almond milk. I love it!
My husband is very very athletic and we go through a lot of protein powder/ protein shakes in this house lol. We tried some of this one recently at a friends house and really enjoyed it so of course we bought our own. It has a pretty good flavor and lots of health / fitness benefits! We'll definitely be repurchasing this one! It will also be absolutely perfect for using to make protein ice cream in our ice cream maker 😋
It tastes really good, no sugar added, chocolate is only 1g sugar, no added sugar, it fulfills me for a dinner meal, no lingering hunger, perfect for me.
If you like a Malted Chocolate flavor, you'll enjoy this product, I personally am not a fan of "malt" chocolates, candies, powders, etc. But the overall quality of the texture and mixing is smooth and comparable to a smoothie. Being a diabetic drink does not diminish the overall flavor... I made mine with milk not water for a closer consistency of a shake or smoothie. Definitely recommend trying if you like a Malted chocolate flavor. It's worth the cost.
I'm disappointed in this shake mix. I tried blending it into my coffee, but was left with a chalky and slightly lumpy cup of...something. I say 'something' because it tasted neither like coffee or chocolate, let alone a 'mocha' sort of flavor. I had even used my milk frother whisk to blend it, which works well with other powders, but it did not blend well. I tried again, mixing it simply in cold water per instructions. It blended better, but there was still a chalk-like texture. There was also very little chocolate flavor. The drink also had a thin mouth-feel, which might be fixed by replacing water with milk. I will try using this in a smoothie as a boost of protein. I've used the vanilla one as such, and it worked well. Mixed with frozen fruit, the texture shouldn't be much of an issue. But I had been hoping for a more cost-effective way to assist my protein and nutrition goals, and this is not the solution I had been hoping for.
Glucerna itself, in my opinion is the best diabetic meal/snack replacement available. I bought the powder mix as it is a better value for the dollar. Once received, I made the “shake” several different ways, though no matter I made it, I still had a gritty texture in my mouth and it in no way tasted like the quality of the pre-made shakes you can purchase. I will continue to purchase the pre-made products, but this product doesn't meet my standards.
