We really like the way the coffee comes out of our Hamilton Beach 12 cup programmable coffee maker. We had to adjust the amount of coffee grounds that we added. Both the package of the coffee and the pot directions said to put in quite a lot but we adjusted that to our taste and it is perfect. We bought the Community Coffee-medium roast Breakfast Blend at Walmart and found it to be delicious. The directions are very easy to understand. We programmed the machine to turn on at a certain time in the morning so that the coffee is ready when we are. We only make a small amount of coffee each day since there is just 2 of us, but it does a wonderful job of that. I fill it to the 4 cup mark and it makes 2 nice sized mugs. I bought the cone shaped coffee filters that they recommended. The only improvement that I can see for this coffee maker is getting the water for the coffee to come out a little hotter as we need to put our mug in the microwave for a few seconds , probably due to the amount of creamer that we put in. If you unplug the machine at some time you do need to reset the time and the timer again.
This is a wonderful coffee maker! It's the easiest to set the time, and to program the time you want it to start brewing. The little green light will let you know when the auto-program is on. All you need to do is add the right amount of water, a filter, and your favorite coffee. This unit uses #4 cone filters. Some might see this as a drawback. I see it as a plus. I've tried coffeemakers that use basket filters(which cost less than cone). Sometimes, the sides of the basket filter would tip over during brewing. This usually resulted in the grounds and water overflowing onto the coffee pot and the hot-plate. I don't have this happen with cone filters. I like the auto-pause feature. This allows you to pour a cup of coffee before the brewing cycle is finished. This pot will automatically shut off in two hours, which is another feature I really like. If you are not going to use all the coffee you brew within 30 minutes or so, it's best to pour the finished coffee into a thermal pot. I also recommend you let the pot cool before washing, and wash it using a sponge or cloth-nothing that could score the insides and cause it to crack later.
I didn't look close enough to see that it took #4 cone filters. I have over 1000 regular 12 cup filters so I figured a way to use them by putting a plastic bottle cap in the bottom of the brew basket which holds the filter high enough to work well. Other than that it is working fine. My old coffee maker was over two years old and not getting my coffee very hot even after regular vinegar cleaning so when I made a pot with this new brewer it was so hot I had to put cold water in my cup to cool it down before drinking. Cool.
Besides the Hamilton Beach 12-cup Programmable Coffee Maker, I also own a Keurig 2.0 2000 Coffee maker, I really love my Keurig, but I do get tired of making one cup at a time on some days, so by getting this Hamilton Beach 12-cup Programmable Coffee Maker, I can make 12 cups. I used to have a Mr. coffee, coffee maker but my husband bumped it and it fell and after that it never worked right again. I also did not like how the programmer part worked or not. Anyway when I got this Hamilton Beach Coffee Maker I was eager to try it out, so I cleaned it like you should and set it all up to brew a pot of coffee the next afternoon, so I set the timer for 12:30 in the afternoon so when I got home from work I would have a pot of coffee ready to enjoy. It also comes with a 2 hour automatic shut off built in, I wish there was a way to turn off the automatic shut off control so you do not have to keep track of the two hours and have to turn it back on. It is great if you forget to turn it off, it will automatically do it for you. It uses a cone shaped filter size number 4. When you put it in the machine you have to make sure you push it down on the filter basket so it is properly seated in the coffee maker, also make sure you align the tab correctly and gently press down on the basket. Drippy Carafes? Just like all coffee makers the Hamilton Beach 12-cup Programmable Coffee Maker if you pour it to fast it will drop out of the side of the Carafe, so just pour it slow and easy and no problem, otherwise you will have a mess to clean-up. But all in all I do like this coffee maker, and yes I would recommend this to family and friends.
As of March 2, 2016 I received a black Hamilton Beach 12-cup coffeemaker. To my surprise the shipment was quite expeditious, kudos to the shipping department. It comes equipped with a bilingual manual. It does have a "burn" warning as a potential household threat, therefore I recommend reading the fine print before operating this product. The unit does not have a permanent filter like my previous coffeemaker, so you will need to purchase cone shaped filters, depending on the model, prior to purchase. Unfortunately I couldn't use it immediately out of the box for this very reason. It is programmable and consumers can pause the brewing process to pour a cup of coffee before it is completely brewed. It has a transparent water reservoir to make it easier to manage the water as you fill it. Above the filter basket is a lever used to secure the filter and filter basket in place, you slide it from the right to release it and to the left to secure it. This particular model is quaint, adorable, and it doesn't take up too much space, which is perfect for small apartments. So far, the only primary disadvantage is the lack of a permanent filter, other than that this product meets my expectation
I unboxed the well packaged Hamilton Beach 12 Cup Coffee maker this morning. As instructed, I washed the glass carafe and filled the unit with 12 cups of water, as per the lines of measure on the carafe. After installing the #4 paper coffee filter into the basket, I programmed the correct time and then the time I wanted the coffee to start brewing. This was 10 minutes from the set time so I could have the coffee ready. After 10 minutes, the brewing process started. It took 12 minutes for the completion of the brewing. The coffee was nice and hot. The instructions also said the carafe could be removed during the brewing, so as to have a cup of coffee before the entire amount of water was run through the filter. The carafe can be removed no more then 20 seconds as the brewer will restart automatically. that was plenty of time to pour a cup of coffee and return the carafe to the warming plate and brew position. I also found that the unit will automatically shut off after 3 hours, a good feature. My assessment concludes this product to be very functional which when programmed will yield a hot , fresh pot of coffee waiting when you need it the most!
This is a basic coffee maker with a serious flaw. The lid on the carafe is hinged and there is no latch to keep the lid closed when pouring coffee. The lid has a nub that one has to push against when pouring coffee. But those not familiar with the carafe can easily pour hot coffee on the counter or themselves. We are likely to dispose of this coffee maker.
The little spring device that hangs down where you put the pot in malfunctioned and coffee was running down onto the counter top. After a few times, it fell out so I used it without the spring and it works okay. At least coffee isn`t running all over the counter top now.
We purchased this Coffee Maker as a backup and didn't open it until 9/23/22. This is what we found when we opened the Shipping Box. There was no damage to the Box, the Manufacturers Box, containing the product showed a hit/dent on the lower front and tear in the rear. The Coffee Maker was a mess of broken glass and plastic, The person, who seemed to be in charge refused to refund my money, even though I purchased a replacement policy. 760-887-0938
I ordered this HB model b/c it's become difficult to find cone-type auto drip coffee makers; this was one of the only options out there. So disappointed in the coffee it makes. It is a 12 C pot. With a ratio of 1 T coffee: 9 C water, we end up with grounds in every pot. I emailed HB customer service asking "Is this normal?" They asked for more details. I even sent back pictures (grounds up and over wet filter, grounds in cup, grounds in sink). Their solution was to use *more* coffee. It hasn't helped. Yuck. I haven't read this complaint from others, so I suspect there's something wrong with the coffee pot I got.
