The entire reason I bought this mixer was the design of the mixer plus storage bin. No brainer, keep all attachments plus mixer in one compact nice looking set that stands up in my cupboard? Yes please! I adore my stand mixer %26 will never give it up but this hand mixer will be my go-to for small jobs.
First,POWER! This Hamilton Beach 6- Speed Hand Mixer is Beyond Impressive! I have had great hand mixers, a stand mixer, but this one really blew me away. I make a lot of chocolate chip cookies, so I judge my mixers on this. The mixing was easy- I mostly used Power 2, even all flour in. It was super easy but final dough got a Power 3 for ease to me, lessen time, %26 benefit of the total dough mixing. Now, quite a downside but not enough to tip the scales from its power - the beaters collect dough especially the bottoms worse than anyother product I've used in part because even giving it the high speed to release most dough didn't work. I had to use butter knife %26 spoon. Or waste it anyway due to splatter, even on lower high speeds. This is the second hand Ive had that comes with an attachable storage component. It is great for its attachments %26 a little extra room for additional items. I find attaching the mixer itself is fine but really difficult to remove, especially since I have arthritis in my hand. but i do appreciate it for keeping items in an organized manner. The attachments also include coated beaters to protect your bowls, and good for mixing certain things better. A whisk is also included, I haven't needed it yet. So if you want a hand mixer that really works, does exactly what you expect and exceeds those, is easy to use and budget friendly, this Hamilton Beach mixer is IT! BTW, I'm pretty sure this is the first Hamilton Beach product I have ever used or owned. It's not a brand that immediately comes to my mind when I think about kitchen appliances. This little hand mixer will be added in my top list to consider next time my kitchen needs something.
I bought a similar Hamilton Beach mixer years ago but it was on a stand. It is still working except the beaters sometimes fall out. I was torn whether I wanted this on as a replacement or another stand mixer. I opted for this one and am so glad I did because this one fits my old stand perfectly and is a little more powerful. I am very please with my purchase!
I chose this particular mixer because of the storage basket to keep the accessories in. Unfortunately, the storage basket does not attach to the mixer well. No amount of twisting and pushing will click it into place. Looks like I will just have to store the beaters separately.
I would think that with 7 speeds you could have from slow to fast, but this one only has from fast to faster. It is so fast that I have to mix it by hand alittle first to keep dry ingredants from flying out of the bowl. You might to able to get off the ground with the highest speed but am afaid to try it!
I’m 61 and haven’t owned a hand mixer in over 28 years. While I am impressed by the performance and power so far, the storage case is not the easiest thing to use. One needs some hand strength to remove the mixer from atop the storage case. The silicone covered beaters work as promised with far less splatter. I look forward to making cookies now. I will explore the other attachments as I need them.
Overall this seems to be decent value for the money. However, as with many other reviewers I found the so-called "low" speed to be way too fast, creating a big mess on your counter if you're not super careful. If it had a genuine low speed this would be a five star review rather than three. The case that holds the attachments is a good idea, but I found it to be a rather poor fit (once again several other reviewers have noted this). It seems to be getting easier to put on with use, but it really should fit well out of the box. That's more of a quibble, though. The absence of a true low speed setting is the big issue here.
I tried to use it once and I really liked that it had beaters that were rubber coated so they won't scratch your pans and that it had a storage cup for beaters but the mixer is so powerful that on the lowest setting it blew my hot fudge all over my kitchen and the mixer is extremely heavy and wont fit on top the beater holder like it should and cord is extremely stiff and curly and won't go straight. I should have just bought a cheap mixer.
First time using it with a simple chocolate chip cookie recipe and the dough is constantly crawling up the beater sticks no matter how many times I try to dislodge it. It then overworked itself and started smelling burnt. I absolutely do NOT recommend this item.
I opened the box and washed all my accessories. I then plugged the mixer in to use it. Once I turned it on the motor was stuttering and then all you could smell was a burning smell. Like the motor was struggling. I immediately placed the items back in the box and returned it to the store.
