I moved to a house that has a stair way my original queen boxspring would not fit through. I had heard about these instant-box springs and was intrigued. Assembly was fairly painless. I liken it to building simple IKEA furniture. After about 30 minutes of work I had a solid support for my mattress similar in nature to a platform bed, but with the visuals of a traditional mattress/boxspring combo. Very impressive!
I wanted a low profile foundation that would support the mattress well without significantly increasing the overall height of the bed. This is it. It is a solid wooden frame that has to be bolted together, with multiple cross slats that are screwed into the frame. It was very easy to put together, even screwing in the cross slats with a screwdriver rather than a drill. (I'm female, 70+). You may not find it too attractive but it becomes invisible once the cover is on, and especially then if you cover it with a bed skirt. It's job, after all, is to support the mattress, not look pretty. It was shipped amazingly quickly; price is excellent. It's exactly what I was looking for and would highly recommend it.
I am elderly with some mobility issues. I was able to easily assemble this platform by myself. The directions are very simple and straightforward; however, I had to put a couple of cross slats in position before I fully tightened the corner bolts. Otherwise it appeared that the the cross slats are slightly too long. They were, in fact, just right. The cover was easy to put on and it looked like the sales picture. Mine was a queen size.
This was a great deal- made as described of heavy wood, more than enough hardware to assemble (though the plastic bag containing the screws and bolts split during shipping and there was a hole punched into the box- luckily nothing was lost). Heavy box- good thing my husband was here to help carry it upstairs, but I was able to assemble it alone, no problem. The cover is not so nice, but will not show- drawstring tightener does not work well unless you assemble the unit then turn it over to adjust and tighten- not really necessary for the trouble that would entail, since I assembled it atop my bed frame in a rather small room. I have not slept in this bed yet, but it feels fine and sturdy beneath a med-firm foam mattress. Altogether, I am pleased with this purchase, and can recommend it to anyone who needs such a foundation and has narrow, winding staircase which would not allow for an assembled box spring without wall damage.
Since I can't get anything larger than a twin box spring into the upstairs of my farmhouse, I started looking into split queen box springs when I happened upon this. Yes, it's made with pine, but it's been sturdy so far after everything is tightened. I can see where people would have trouble getting the last piece or two attached. I simply treated it like any other RTA box furniture- you don't fully tighten everything until all parts are in place. The biggest issue I had was that I didn't properly center the slats that connect the sides and was unable to put a screw into the end of one slat. Overall, not a bad product, and I like the option i have to take it back apart if I would need to remove it from the upstairs of my house.
When we were shopping online for a replacement for our 40-year-old box spring in our spare bedroom, I was skeptical of a foundation kit shipped in a box. After reading the product details and other reviews, we decided to give it a try. Shipping direct to our door was one advantage. When I opened the box, I was surprised at how well-made the sub-assemblies were. It took about 20 minutes to assemble the whole thing, and there were even a few extra pieces of hardware (bolts and screws). While it would be possible to do the assembly work with only a hand screwdriver, a power driver definitely makes it easier and faster. We were pleased with the end result of this foundation kit.
I could have bought one for less money locally but it would have cost me $10 less than the price of the foundation to get it delivered! So I looked for something I could have delivered that was not too far above my price range and I found this. It was easy to put together. The bolts, wing nuts, and washers were no problem for me. I think you might be able to put together by yourself but it would be hard so I would make sure you had someone to help if possible. You just have to line the bolts up, push them through the large holes and put your washer and wing nut on. I was surprised at how tight I was able to get them with just my hand strength. You also have to put two screws into each slat but make sure not to tighten the last two sides too tight so you can get the screws in because if you put the 4 sides together and then try to put the slats in they will not fit. The instructions are sparse. It has pictures but you still have to do a little fiddling around to see how the pieces fit together. They show how to put together a full size bed so you have to allow for that when you are putting together a twin like we were. I believe you might can go online for more instructions but we didn't need them. It will take at least an hour or so if you have two people working on it I think. The wood is nice quality pine and the foundation is strong when all put together. It comes with a cover so you won't see the wood when you put it on your bed. It looks really nice and we are happy with it. We had it shipped to the store and my husband was able to put the long rectangular box in the back of our compact car so we didn't have to pay shipping. I would buy it again if I needed it for another bed.
When the delivery truck delivered the box I was shocked. They were not joking about assembly required. It was a long skinny box. Basically the top and bottom is together but you have to attach the sides and middle support to them. Then you have to screw in every slat. Instructions are not very detailed. I have mine together now and I just noticed I have the top and bottom installed upside down. Doesn't make a difference on my bed so I'm not going to take the time to take it all apart and rebuild. As a box spring it works just as you would expect it to. It supports the mattress and seems very sturdy. Very good deal for the price and it only took about 30 minutes to part together. Just be sure you have a socket wrench and a drill to save yourself some time.
The first thing I noticed was the wood was in miserable condition. Some boards even had random nails sticking out of them. My other problem was the construction of the side boards. Whoever made the sideboards nailed one piece on backwards so that I had to drill my own holes in it to make it work. This took a solid hour of confusion to figure out why it wouldn't go together correctly. Drilling my own holes made the construction process much more difficult than necessary. Once it was all together though it was a pretty good box spring for the price. I'm just worried that the boards holding it together are going to break at any time. I would NOT recommend this to anyone, you might as well go by an already put together box spring...
They call it a "Instant Box Springs" BUT, If you didn't get into building with Lincoln Logs when you were a child, and don't own a tool box now, do not get this! I don't remember anywhere it mentioned it came in a 90 pound box 13" X 13" X 90" anywhere. I would have figured it wasn't right. Thought the chance they had sent me a mattress, but no luck. Going to go to furniture outlet and test drive a real bed and box springs. First time I have been dissatisfied with online shopping.
