I have purchase 3 set about 10 years ago. It was easy and fast to do. I have purchased 3 more sets because my wood fence is falling apart and I decided to have every thing new. The old set I will use for the other side of my house. In fact I purchased another set for my in-law because their gate is sagging.
I bought the product about a month ago. It went to together very easily. The now is no sagging to the gate. My old gate had a diagonal piece but the easy gate is much superior. The free shipping was great.
This was easy to use. I switched out the included screws for exterior wood screws. Definitely follow instructions and pre-drill the holes
I am a professional contractor. I have built gates for fences every way you can possibly think of. This is the best system I have seen yet. The brackets are strong and simple as well as fast. I just did a fence this past week with 4 gates and had them all built in less than an hour. For all the reviews that say it needs instructions, this is so simple that the picture on the front of the box is more than enough instruction. I highly recommend this product and even though I am a professional any homeowner shouldn't have any problem using it.
Overall I was pleased with Easy Gate No-Sag Bracket Kit. I ordered 3 of them, and have used 2 so far. In one of the kits the opening on the hinged brackets was 1/8 too small to receive the treated 2x4s I was using, so I had to trim the 2x4s down. In both kits the weld's in the hinged brackets interfered with the 2x4 fitting snugly, so I had to angle cut 1/4 off the corner of each 2x4. One kit was short on screws. Also, no instructions at all were included or available online, resulting in me having to do rework. "20 minute" setup would probably be true if you had all wood precut and all tools ready at hand, had assemble several before and are a pro builder. For me, with no instructions, it took closer to 3 hours per gate. But I'm pleased with the outcome, thus the high rating.
The directions are misleading. It states on the box that the brackets will accommodate 2x3's, 2x4's, or 2x6's ...for the horizontals. NOWHERE on the box does it tell you the verticals must be standard 2x4's, not even the rough cut cedar 2x4's which are slightly wider than a more finished pine 2x4. So this not only cost me time, but money since I wanted to match the rest of the fence and bought 2x3's, and then cut them to size. So I had to go back to the store, and I bought a 12' cedar 2x4. Then I discovered it was too wide, and had to cut it down on my tablesaw, which if you don't have one, would have been very difficult. Also, I ended up not using the included screws; I went with sturdy construction screws that have a Torx head, because they are superior to the ones that were included. This is after the first one stripped with almost no effort. After it was assembled, it seems sturdy enough, and it's square. We'll see how long it holds together.
This is the second gate I am making. The first lasted 5 years with no sagging, so it is worth the trial and error. It is not as easy as the video. Sure connecting the 4 2X4s is easy, but then hooking the hinges to the post getting enough clearance and setting the hardware was a pain. NEED instructions for sizing the easy gate and hints to hook the hinges to the post.
I bought 2 easy gate sets from a local big box store. Got them home and followed directions, cut my 2x4 square on my shop smith and started assembling. I instantly ran into a couple of manufacturing problems. First, the hinge brackets have a weld on them that requires you to cut the corner off the 2x4 so you can get it square (see problem number 3) into the corner. Second, the screws are cheap and undersized for the weight of the materials. And third, the brackets are not square. ( I have a B*H so I am certain I can square them up enough to work) This of course was realized and checked after I tried to assemble the bottom to the two sides. (see picture of the last corner) Quality control seems to be questionable. Only one out of the 8 brackets from the two kits was square. You guys have a good idea here but your quality is very lacking. The 20 minutes you advertise is probably correct, if you have your wood cut to size and a large enough work table set up in advance and your kits have square brackets. After reading a couple of the other reviews, I see where some "repairs" might be in order. Replacing the screws and reinforcing the hinges. I would cautiously recommend this product to a friend but only one who will check the product in the store.
The quality of the product is poor. I have built several fences with gates and thought this would be a simple solution for the gate. The brackets are poorly made. Although instructions are available online, as well as, videos most associated with Homax I did not find informative
These brackets do not fit rough cut cedar 2X4s. That is of which what many, many wooden fences are made. You will have to notch out a space for the bracket. This requires time and tools. Product package does not say this. No instruction manual was in the box. It is not as easy as "Easy Gate" could be. Hinge screws are too small. They will not last the test of time and weather. Hinges are too small. The design is a good idea but incomplete. You could very well end up spending more time using this product than if you just buy heavy duty gate hinges and build your gate from scratch. Responses here from Homax offer no solution just an apology. I have built and repaired many fences. If you stand behind your product offer a solution or a refund! DO NOT BUY!
