I tested it with distilled water, and it was 1.000 on the mark. The test tube screws apart for easy cleaning. It comes with a protective case for the hydrometer. I would wash the hydrometer separately in order to prevent damage to it. They have to be made in a specific manner in order to give an accurate reading. All hydrometers are somewhat delicate. This one is definitely a great quality for the cost!

Once i learned how to use it, it works great. Appears to be very accurate when compared to a known source. Only dislike was it had no instructions on how to use it. I had to do some research to find out.

The proof and trails hydrometer seemed to work properly. I also purchased one to check specific gravity and it does not seem to work, I tested it on a purchased beer and it showed zero alcohol

So apparently, the test tube is actually 3 pieces. The tube screws into the base, and theres a gasket in the base. unfortunately, the gasket is solid and not a ring. Liquid gets into the gasket during cleaning, and you cant dry it out without taking the gasket out. You cant take the gasket out without damaging it. So now, you either rip it out and the tester is leaky, or you leave it in and the gasket promotes mold growth. I severely regret this purchase, replacing asap.
