True steam. Because it boils the water, the white dust doesn't appear all over everything. Use distilled water and the entire mineral problem goes away. The steam rises completely up into the room then disappears. My cool mist units resemble waterfalls. The mist goes up a foot or so then falls to the floor. This is very basic, small green LED indicators on the front and a Low-Off-Hi switch tell you if it's on hi, low or off. You'll need to keep white vinegar on hand. You'll use it to make a vinegar and water solution and let it sit in the water tank. You'll also use it to soak the mineral deposits off the heating element during weekly cleaning. Takes about 30 - 40 minutes of soaking, then use a soft brush, like an old tooth brush to gently remove any remaining visible deposits. The other plastic parts other than the tank and the base are dishwasher safe. I fill the base with white vinegar and let the heating element soak while the other parts are sanitizing in the dishwasher. At least there are no filters to buy and replace. I used a sound meter app on my smart phone to measure the sound level. As I passed the microphone directly over the steam outlet, the meter read 36db. One foot above the outlet, it only read 20db. It's even quieter on low. And the sound you hear is that of water simmering. I almost purchased a "stainless steel warm mist humidifier" for $150, then realized, I could have two of these for way less money and always have at least one running while the other is in service. This Honeywell HWM440 has a higher output on high than the Vick's Warm Mist Humidifier which I also own. I needed something larger for my big room, about 800 sq. ft. With both of them working together, I'm finally over 40% humidity again.

Bought 2 of these ( for different rooms) because they have a large water bin ( you don't have TOP FILL it as often). The high and low steam mists both work great, and it is easy to flip the switch to low, off and high. Haven't had to clean it yet (we have hard water) , but the instructions that comes with the unit are simple and direct. Read other reviews to get great suggestions from other purchasers. I also like that it is NOT ultrasonic, so there are no mineral deposits to clean up.

This humidifier best suits my needs. I've tried many other humidifiers through the years. I love the warm air mist. It helps me feel warmer in my home which I keep at 68 degrees in the winter. This is the 2nd Honeywell 1.5 gal. ********* sq ft Filter Free Warm Mist Humidifier with Essential Oil Cup that I have purchased.

I've been really happy with this Honeywell humidifier. It's easy to set up, simple to adjust, and it makes a noticeable difference in dryness—especially overnight. It runs quietly enough that it doesn't disturb sleep, and the tank is straightforward to refill and clean. After a few days, my room felt more comfortable and I woke up with less dry throat and congestion. Overall, it's a solid, reliable humidifier that does exactly what it's supposed to do.

This particular make and model of 1.5 gallon warm mist is the best we've owned in recent years. The newer version, quite frankly stinks. The controls on this one are reliable. The electronic controls on the newer one work sporadically and ultimately break quickly.

Although this one is bigger than I anticipated, I still like it. Had I known how large it was, I would have chosen the 1 gallon size instead. That's the only negative thing about this. Other than that, it runs quietly, the mist is fine, and it seems like it will be easier to clean than many of the others out there.

i have 2 of these units and bought 2 more. they run quiet and boost humidity very well in the house. they have no filters to replace. when they shut off due to salt build up from my water, i just put in some vinegar and let it set for a while. dump out the vinegar and refill with water and they are goid as new. i run mine constantly and only clean them every 2 weeks.

It lasts about a day with a full tank on low which is great, but I just give it a gallon every morning and let it run to empty because having it run 24/7 was actually TOO much humidity for my 700ish square foot apartment, so it performs above itself. The one thing I wish was easier was cleaning the inside, I follow the instructions and there's still sometimes some grime in hard to scrub places.

Overall I like this unit. I purchased this since we have very hard water here, I need to clean the unit every time I put in more water. The way the unit is designed, it is easy to pour in some CLR and dilute it. The one problem I see is the floater. Once or twice the water was not properly going into the area with the heating unit. I resolved the issue to the floater; it seems very picky. Last night I noticed there was almost no water in the heating area, so I turned the unit off. A minute later I heard a bang and thought the unit was toast, but it is still working.
