These things come down to a matter of personal taste. I never buy them if they are not on sale. I am not a big guy so one of these actually works for a lunch; but it is also good for a diet if this is what you stick to. On three occasions in the past 20 years of buying these I have opened one and it was mouldy. I called the toll free number on the back and was immediately compensated with coupons for more Hormel products. When they first came out in the early '80s I ran across a mouldy one and Hormel /richly/ compensated me with some cash ($50) and a case or two of the product; but those days are gone. Any problem with the product, even if you don't like the taste, they will immediately refund you with at least one coupon. They are way cheaper than backpacking MREs and they can be eaten cold (although Hormel would not recommend it) and I have taken stacks of them on three day trips. Unlike many products like this e.g. frozen dinners they have, over the decades, not severely reduced the meat content of the product. I sometimes get called into work at 2:00 A.M. and they are extremely handy to have in the cupboard for a very quick meal before going back out. My favourite two are spaghetti and beffy mac. I have tried them all and despise the dumpling one but who knows? you , might love it. These packages have been sitting on store shelves for literal decades and somone other than me must be buying them because they are still there. But I wait for them to go on sale then I stock up. And I know for a fact that they are good WAY past the printed "use by" date.
This is the second time I have purchased these dinners and I love them. They are the correct proportions and taste like you just put them together yourself. Since they are stored on a dry shelf, I don't have to be concerned about freezer burn or how tough the meat will be when warmed up.
For the price and preparation it's a very solid meal. The sirloin steak with the savory gravy, and well cooked sliced potatoes makes this dish another favorable Compleat meal.
For a meal that's not frozen or made from scratch, it's pretty good! Heats quickly and evenly and the sauce is yummy. I buy a lot of these for my lunch break when I'm working. It's just enough to satisfy my hunger without filling me up so much that I want to go to sleep.
out of the compleats meals I've tried this one is definitely my favorite. it isn't exactly gourmet but you get what you pay for. I appreciate that most of these are also dairy free, most frozen dinners contain milk so it's nice to find convenience meals that I can actually eat.
it didn't taste like Salisbury steak and the potatoes weren't good. their mashed potatoes are much better
I bought these little dinners (all the kinds they make) so I would have something quick to make, alot of them I put over rice, this one my hubby liked but just said it could be improved....I continue to buy them!
Bought this item and beef stew. The beef stew had no carrots and only three potatoes. I was very disappointed. Would not recommend any of these products. I want the product displayed on the picture
kind of bland and texture was a little off. I have tried a bunch of different Hormel completes and my St are pretty good. this one is pretty mediocre.
I ordered 2 but got 1 Salisbury steak and 1 beefy Mac. My granddaughter only eats the Salisbury steak.
