Fantastic furniture paint!

Brandon January 8, 2021

A gorgeous Louis Blue color. This paint went on smooth, super pigmented, and covered old paint and bare wood in one full coat and one light coat. Took and hand waxed top coat very well. Used transfers as well, and they glided right on. Much less expensive than your designer chalk paints, just as good.

Love the paint

GeminiDiva77 October 11, 2018

I received the KILZ Chalk Style Decorative paint in the color white in exchange for my honest review. We just recently had to replace the molding around our back door. We purchased our home in 2007 so there has been some wear and tear. After replacing the molding, we tested this paint on the wood surrounding the door. I am not a paint connoisseur, but I was really impressed with the quality of the paint. The paint was really easy to apply, and I was very pleased. We are new to this home improvement stuff, so we did not do any prep work before painting the door and the paint applied seamlessly and even. It doesn’t take much for a full coverage finish. One coat coated the door very well, but we went ahead and did a second coat to be on the safe side. This paint dried really fast. The door molding was completely dry after approximately 2 hours. Most paint has very strong fumes; however, this paint did not. I was a little concerned because we do have a small dog. The clean-up was a breeze. The paint easily washed out of the paintbrush. We didn’t get much on our clothes but the little we did came out also.

Shipping with care

Lincita October 12, 2025

Paint arrived without any damage. I have ordered paint in the past from a different seller and had a big mess. These people took an extra step to ship the paint so it would not be damaged. Great job on the packaging. Oh, paint was great too. Now I can continue my crafting.

great paint

We have an old nightstand table that was looking worn out so we decided to paint it. We decided to try the Kilz chalk style paint because it doesn't require any elaborate preparation before hand. It was nice and thick and covered well and after drying didn't even require a second coat. Cleanup was easy with soap and water and the table looks fantastic now.

Great paint

dindin31 May 4, 2018

This paint is great. I repainted my bathroom vanity and it looks great. Went on so smoothly I didn't have to add another coat. So easy to clean up with soap and water Now I'll need to buy a bigger size to paint my daughters dresser that is black. I will try and make it an Emoji theme. I'll post thr after. I highly recommend this.

Looks great, easy to use!

Michelle April 22, 2018

Even though we live in a small, rural town, there are many furniture and home decor manufacturers. Small workshop-type factories filled with friendly workers, creating American-made furnishings. Nearly all are made and sold with "aged" finishes, to give them a reclaimed-wood finish. So, last year during the holidays, my friend (an owner) said he needed some extra help, and I joined in. I ended up working in the paint and finishing department for many weeks, creating the finishes that people pay thousands upon thousands of dollars for. Among other things, I learned that when you're going for an aged look, it's hard to do anything that's actually "wrong," so long as you completely finish the work when you're done, either with a rub-on wax or a brushed or sprayed varnish of some kind. So, based on my experience, I was excited to try this out. To my delight, with this chalk paint, not only can you not-go-wrong, it is very easy to use. When you use this chalk paint, first make sure the wood is free of dust, grease, or other things likely to wipe off in the future (taking the paint with it). And then... you paint. That's it. Super easy. Clean up with water. The paint tends to cover very well and go a long way, too, although I could imagine a need for a second coat in some unusual circumstances, as with all paints/prior finishes. The best-case use for these is probably when refinishing furniture -- literally reclaiming wood or furniture. When replacing wood finishes, you normally need to strip the wood of any paints and varnishes up front; sanding is hard work, while the highly combustible chemical approach to stripping wood is arduous at best, and dangerous in many circumstances including in enclosed spaces or during pregnancy. Plus, if there is much detail to the wood, it can be nearly impossible to do completely. To my mind, the smokey eyes color we got fits contemporary-to-modern decor, with the farmhouse style really ideal for chalk paints, generally. This shade might be best when you're looking for a darker neutral which still comes across with a pleasant-yet-noticeable impact of color. It would also work well with a contrasting color (say, a white) painting underneath, or on top, and then doing some easy, light sanding after it dries, to allow the colors to merge into a pleasantly uneven farmhouse-style look. Remember to add a finish when you're done, like wax or varnish, afterward.

great paint

mommyofet April 22, 2018

the paint I received was the platinum ring, a light grey color. The can says little to no prep, but I always prep stuff, so I first sanded with 80 grit, followed by 320. so applying was typical of chalk paint thick and a little goes along way. I did notice it dried a little faster than other chalk paints I've used in the past. I applied one coat, then lightly sanded again with 320. I sanded again because the first coat usually leaves paint brush strokes. chalk paint is usually self leveling, and I found after the sanding the first coat, the coverage was smooth and soft. so I applied a second coat and it was excellent coverage and thickness, this paint is really great and easy to use. with all chalk painted things you will need to seal it with something, kilz suggest to use their waxes, and that is the popular method. but I found with other pieces, wax only lasts a few months and you will have to redo it. chalk paint is really absorbing and if you don't seal it and it gets dirty, that dirt is stuck there. you can add wood stain by lightly rubbing it on to give it an aged look, or paint over it with it. I did use wood stain over the chalk paint on my chair. I usually seal it with polycrylic matte finish. I do not have to reapply with this and it protects it. overall I see no difference with this chalk paint over more expensive ones, I would use again

Nice color

kesa76 April 23, 2018

KILZ Chalk Style Decorative Paint is for use on new wood, cast stone, concrete or properly prepared metal surfaces. It is suggested that it is not used on horizontal areas with foot traffic as that will scuff up and ruin the paint job. This paint goes on as a matte and has a chalky look. While this paint can be applied on surfaces with little to no prep, the downside is that you need to seal it with a wax afterwards if you want a vintage or distressed antique look. It dries quickly to the touch within one to two hours and then you can apply a second coat. It goes on really thick and provides nice coverage. One quart of this paint will cover about one hundred square feet. This paint can also be used as a chalkboard paint. You will just need to use a darker color to contrast the chalk along with a base coat primer. The color I have is called Platinum Ring. It is a very light gray or silver color and it looks nice on my sample projects that I have however I like more of a gloss to semi-gloss look. Overall, this paint is nice but after all the things you will need to purchase to create the intended affect such as distressing or a vintage look, I would say it is not cost effective. Would I choose to get this in the future? Probably not but if you don't mind all the extra steps you need to achieve the desired look, then this is a nice paint. There are many tutorials you can look up in order to see how to use this and what all you can do with it.

It's not a 'white' white and it takes several coats. I read some reviews that said they covered their black painted furniture with just one coat of the white. That’s not true. I even used several coats of a white primer before I used the chalk paint and still had to use several coats of the chalk paint. So for the price, I didn’t think it was a good purchase.

Chalk paint

Betty November 29, 2025

Chalk paint was full of lumps at bottom of can about one inch thick. Lumps when broken apart were white. No amount of stirring made the paint usable had to throw away.
