From a crusted brush to ready with Klean Strip

Zorro74 August 25, 2020

Klean-Strip is recommended for cleaning brushes and tools immediately after a paint job. I've tried that and it worked just as described. You just dip your brush in the paint thinner, agitate it for a bit for a good soaker, then press against the sides of your container and let dry. For surfaces and tools, there are very clear and easy to follow instructions on the jug. However, even though it's not mentioned on the label, I've used it on a brush and a hammer that I've left in another solvent for a few days (see the “Before” picture). The solvent crusted on the brush and the hammer, you can see how caked up and stiff the brush bristles were. After shaking the jug for a bit, I soaked the brush in Klean-Strip for about 10 minutes, then dragged it against the edge of the container I used for cleaning it to squeeze out any remaining paint thinner. I did that for about five minutes and each time I would dip the brush in Klean-Strip, squeeze it out and scrape the hardened solvent. After five minutes it was ready for drying. Once dry, there was no oil residue or greasy feel on the brush or the hammer and the bristles were almost as good as new and the brush was ready for the next job (see the “After” picture). Smell is tolerable and is not as pungent as other paint thinners that I've used in the past. I also like the fact that it has a white color because that helped me to visually inspect the brush for excess paint thinner at the end of the cleaning process.

Great value for 1 gallon low flammable paint thinn

cherylatthelake August 31, 2020

This package arrived very well padded and packed in a substantial box, no leaks. My husband has used it to clean paint brushes...so far. And you can see from the photo what a good job the paint thinner did! You can use it to thin oil based paints, and to clean grease off of tools and auto parts. Those will be the main uses of this product for us. So, we both are very pleased with this!

Perfect for your paint project clean up

Liblou August 27, 2020

This is amazing stuff. I just completed a project in my garage where I stained the concrete. The products I used were Valspar and the concrete bond is a hard item to clean up after. Not with this product, it removed all products from accidental spills and it also cleaned the brushes perfectly. This even cleaned up after the concrete stain. I am not a perfect painter I often get more on myself than the walls, so I must always clean up my accidental drops or spills. This product makes it easy. I put some on a rag to remove drips and it worked. I had thought since using Valspar products and how hard they are to remove I would need to use the stripper/cleaner they have, not so! This is a great product.

Fast

Kdiva February 19, 2021

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Made my old thick paint like new again. Worked fast and easy no problems just pour and stir. Great stuff saved me from buying new paint. Also mixed it with some paint for my sprayer achieved my goal quickly.

Nice product!

odie22 February 27, 2021

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We recently have been doing some remodeling on our home. I had the opportunity to try the Klein Strip paint thinner. This was a very good product and worked well thinning out the paint for use in our paint gun as well as clean up. The thing I like most about it was the “less flammable” feature meant that it also had less harmful fumes. Very nice product.

Mineral Spirits alternative

JustDave August 23, 2020

First of all, I usually avoid "green" products to replace cleaning chemicals because, the fact is, they just don't work as well. Some work fine, but I have never found one that works BETTER. I'm not saying don't use them. Sometimes you don't need the power of caustic chemicals. Sometimes you might want to avoid the fumes. But I guess this can't really be classified as a "green" product. It just says 'less flammable'. I assume that's because it contains mineral spirits rather than acetone. This paint thinner worked pretty well on cleaning a still wet paint brush that I had let sit for a half hour as a test. Seems like a pretty decent solvent, and would work pretty well for cleaning surfaces before you paint them. Strangely, the label, instructions, and the sales copy don't mention using this for thinning paint at all. Seems like it is marketed to less caustic alternative to paint thinner; pretty much mineral spirits diluted a bit and relabeled. If you need to thin spray lacquer, or remove old, dried paint, stick with the stinky, caustic acetone thinner. For basic cleanup before, during and immediately after painting, this should be fine.

Too thick, almost like a hand cream

craig September 2, 2026

It works but I wouldn't get it again. It's too thick which does help with the flammability part but I'd rather have the clear watery stuff. I won't buy this again

Terrible waste of money and time

Dean August 11, 2026

This product is an absolute waste of time. It's thick and gooey and will not clean a brush adequately no matter how much you use
