Knox Safety Battery Operated Carbon Monoxide Detector, Voice Alert & Display, 10-Year Lithium Power

I've been wanting another carbon monoxide detector for quite some time for my second floor. I have one that's built into a smoke detector but it's on the first floor. I've installed this one in a bedroom. Since this is such an important device, I read the instructions thoroughly before installing it. The only confusing part was how to activate it. It has a very tiny switch on the back that you slide to activate but the switch doesn't really align with the indicator lines. I took a chance and slid it to the left and it activated. It audibly lets you know it's activated so surprisingly it does talk! It speaks in English and Spanish and is loud enough to wake you if you're sleeping and you can probably hear it a few rooms away. Once activated it stays activated. There is nothing further you need to do. If deactivated it's a permanent deactivation. It has a digital display but should be backlit as it would be nearly impossible to see it in the dark. The front buttons are peak, test/reset and status. There is a small indicator window on the bottom front which flashes green every minute or so. If it turns red that means you need to vent then get to fresh air. I like that you can either install this unit on a wall with the provided hardware or you can use the included stand to place it on a flat surface. I chose the stand in case I want to move it. The instructions are very thorough and includes a photo of the entire digital display so you can get to know your unit. It also includes a chart of all alarm notifications. Of course I don't know how well this unit will warn you of carbon monoxide, because I haven't had any detected yet, but it is well built, easy to install, easy to monitor and lasts for 10 years. My only gripe is the unlit digital display. Overall a great detector with a loud, audible voice. I plan to buy one for other bedrooms as well. Customer service number included and includes a 10 year warranty.

The insert with directions is of course written in incredibly small print and not very useful when you finally can read it. Be aware, that the direction say to simply slide on the back panel and that is not at all simple to do. At first I thought I was just given the wrong back panel. After several hours I basically had to body slam the back panel with all of my strength to force it upward. Nowhere in the instructions does it tell you to expect this! the good news is is working now and I do like the fact that you can have it sitting on a table or installed onto a wall. I never know how many stars to give these things when one area has given you complete aggravation. So ease of use for setting it up is horrible, Once you have it put together it's pretty good.

This product was dead on arrival. When I slid the switch to the activated position, nothing happened. No confirmation sound, no viual on the display, LED did not turn on. Tried sliding back and forth in case sensitive to exact position, but simply would not come to life. So I must give lowest rating, especially considering that the reliability of this product could be a matter of life or death. To be fair, I will return and get a replacement of same model and give one more chance, and then give another review.

I liked the overall size of this device, however, the batteries are not easily replaceable like that of other models. During a 4 hour power outage, the device went from being on emergency backup mode to completely drained of power. I was not about to remove all of those little tiny screws just to remove a battery that I do not even know what size it takes. It makes it super difficult to swap out, unlike other devices that simply swap out a 9V battery.

I have purchased 4 of these devices. They're supposed to have 10 yr batteries. Mine never lasted a yr. First ones were replaced stating issues with the battery. seconds ones lasted even less time. Once they start their low battery beep there is no way to shut them off. Do not buy these!

Supposed to be a 10 year lifespan. Failed in 6 months. Alarm went off the other morning followed by a booming voice telling me the battery was low and the unit needs to be replaced. Like a politician, tells you how great it is but fails epically when you need it most.

I bought three of these (Model 7000) for our new house, thinking I was getting one of the best… the batteries last for 10 years. Wrong! Six months later and the batteries in two of the units are dead and the units have to be replaced. Waiting for the third one to start beeping. These are not inexpensive alarms! Don’t purchase!

10 year battery? More like 10 weeks. Purchased Feb 24th 2023 and it started chirping last night (May 9) that the battery needs to be replaced. I spent the $40 for the peace of mind a 10 year battery life offered but it absolutely did not give me either.

I bought this unit on January 26, 2024. It has not been 5 months out a ten year warranty it says change the battery. I would never want to buy this unit again if your product can't last longer than that.

Spent $40 on this unit. Said it has a 10 yr battery life. Bought Apr 2022 and here it is Sept 2022, and the battery is dead and I need to replace the unit.
