Each fruit and vegetable has 2 halves that are held together by velcro. The child uses the play knife and cutting board to "cut" the items into 2 halves. They then have fun putting the pieces back together. The knife is not sharp. The pieces are sturdy and each complete vegetable is about the size of a tennis ball. My granddaughter, 1.5 yrs old, and my grandson, 2.5 yrs old, enjoy playing with them with their kitchens. I would definitely recommend this toy. This is the only product I found that allows the child to actually cut up food and then put it back together.
I learned about this product while visiting family. The quality is excellent and I noticed how both my 3 year old son & my 8 year old daughter played so nice together for a long time "cooking" and "cutting" fruits and vegetables. I told my daughter the other day she was gonna get only one thing for Christmas, to take her time to think about it and to let me know, I was very surprise when she said "sliceable fruits mommy" BECAUSE for the past six month she had been saying all she wanted was a cell phone for Christmas.
My daughter enjoys cutting the fruits and vegetables with the knife. Her father is a chef so she loves showing him what she can do. It also goes well with all the other cooking items we have.
My three year daughter loves playing with this toy. She says "I cut the tomatoes just like Mommy" Even my 10 year old daughter enjoys playing with these with her little sister.
Got these for my 2 year old daughter and she loves them! She can cut them over and over again! She would always watch youtube videos about these toys so i knew she would love them. Great purchase and fast pick-up service!
These were the highlight of gifts for my son -he cut them for over an hour! Only thing that kept me from giving 5 stars is they didn't feel as solid and strong as the set he uses in the library. He loves them though!
I purchased this along with several other Learning Resources sets of play food, and this one is my three year old's favorite! It is made well, works properly (it's easy to slice in half and my son has no problem doing so), but I do have one minor complaint. One of the velcro pieces fell off the pineapple, so it no longer connects. This happened four days after opening the box! It makes me doubt the longevity of this item. So far, it's been just the one piece on the pineapple in two weeks, so I am hopeful it was a fluke and the rest of the pieces will stay in tact. My son plays with them daily; he really enjoys it!
Children (and parents) absolutely love these. There are conducive to multiple teaching opportunities. The one con is the Velcro sticks too well and little hands can have difficulty cutting them apart.
Very thin plastic, you can crack them in your hand, and they will definitely crack if my toddler accidentally steps on them. I bought this brand because all the other things we had bought from them were high quality, but this set feels more like a dollar store toy.
The velcro fell off the foods 2 days after I received them, they're really cheaply made, however my son really wanted them so I had to buy velcro and fix them myself.
