Absolutely loved this advent calendar, all the numbers were easy to open and access and all the lego was, as always, brilliant quality. The calendar followed the movies in order with the builds and mini figures, you would get the beginning of the story, the end of the story and then the mini figure to corollate. Even double the amount for the deathly hallows as it split each days into part 1 and 2. I would personally say that this advent calendar is an easy fun build for all ages especially people who enjoy Harry Potter. Will most likely be getting another potter themed calendar next year from here due to the fantastic quality of this year.
It seems great, though obviously we're not using it until December! I wouldn't have it delivered to my door again though - it arrived in a flimsy plastic envelope so the corners of it were crushed by the time it got to me. The damage ruins the aesthetics, which is important for something that'll go on display at Christmas!
Generally the advent calendar is great, however we got a duplicate Hedwig and upon checking the other doors we're missing Voldemort. Unfortunately as our local stores are sold out and my girls are already invested in the set it doesn't look like I can get a swap/replacement and we don't want to return it. Not sure how my girls will remember the builds without a small booklet either if they take them apart at a later date.
It's only day 2 and both days have been opened and the wrong packages have been in squares. So to keep the surprise for my daughter I've had to open the box completely and find the right packages. Hoping this isn't a trend for the advent. Other than that she is loving it.
I rather like the mini dioramas from iconic scenes and places in the Wizarding World. But I wish there were more festive builds. By comparison, the Star Wars Advent Calendars usually have at least a holiday sweater or print on a minifig - and there have been magic-style snowpeople, fireplaces, and Christmas trees in past Harry Potter Advent Calendars. I hope that next year's calendar has a bit more of the holly jolly spirit!
the condition of one of the Lego sets was very poor
This was my first Lego advent calendar and it was an awful experience. I was so disappointed in the first five days, that I just did the entire thing today. There were a few cute abstract micro builds (dementors at the lake, the Whomping Willow/Ford Anglia scene, dragon escaping Gringotts, the Knight Bus), but most were not iconic moments or were completely confusing as to what they were (one of the builds was possibly a Triwizard Cup or the cauldron that Voldemort was reanimated in, I think and don't get me started on the Order of the Phoenix builds). The minifigures were bland (why is Harry ALWAYS the same?!), too. I liked the Sword of Gryffindor, Azkaban prisoner tile and "Harry Potter" entry paper name tile with the goblet of fire. I wish that there had been microfigures, like the Dementors, with other builds, such as Sirius Black in dog form with the Knight Bus or maybe a goblin with Gringott's. As an aside, I love the multiple shades of purple in the Slughorn build, but does he count as a minifigure or a microbuild? I will likely never get a Lego advent calendar again. Even the game that comes with it is lame.
An advent Calendar is something you display while counting down the days till Christmas. This Harry Potter Advent calendar is the most BORING, NON-Holiday Calendar I have ever gotten. The packaging makes it seem like it's going to be festive, but it's not. It's an eyesore to display. Once you open the box up to display the calendar it is a boring CG picture of a desk in front of a window, with colored dots and a piece of lego to indicate the doors. Same dot, same lego for every door, just different colors. And not even holiday colors. Or harry potter colors. Just random mud colors. This should be sold as "Generic Box with 24 mundane doors that open and contain Harry Potter themed Legos." Also, the box is flimsy. Even if the Lego pieces inside are nice, I would never buy this again and do NOT recommend.
Box smells like smoke. The box was open in both sides and when I opened it the box fell apart and some of the days ripped off.
Unlike some reviewers, i liked the majority of the minifigures, although everyone has plenty of harrys by now for sure. Even though i have read all of the books and seen all of the films, i still don't really know what half of the mini builds are supposed to be. The instructions, squished into calendar doors are hard to follow and i don't believe a child could follow them without assistance. Although I am enjoying having a daily surprise, for the price you could buy a much better lego set that you would want to display or play with. The cardboard "game" seems like an afterthought that is desperately trying to add play value to a product which may well cost this much to produce but is not worth this much to buy.
